Luke tasked

Going with Charbonneau-Campeau as a starter would leave them with no backup receivers. Unless you dress Tasker as a DI/backup, and then you have to drop one of the other DI’s. Makes the ratio flexibility thing a wash.

Here’s the issue with Charbonneau-Campeau, he’s a young non-import receiver with a lot of promise. However not so good that you protect him over Samuel Giguere. That means he’s likely going to be an expansion draft target. It doesn’t make sense to give him reps quite yet. At least, that’s the only explanation I have.

Sorry to contradict you, but that’s not true. Tasker was dressed as one of the 16 non-designated imports. They don’t have to start all 16. They could have started Charbonneau-Campeau and if needed Tasker could have come in to replace any receiver, whether import or non-import.

Sure they could have done that… but I was replying to the suggestion that they start SC-C specifically to help with ratio flexibility. Using a non-designated import as a backup doesn’t really do that, it just wastes an import spot.
If they thought SC-C would be better than Tasker, they could have played him at any time. They didn’t.

Starting an extra non-import, or more precisely less than the maximum number of imports, allows the team to have one of the non-starting imports as an undesignated import. In particular, if they had put Lawrence as the fourth non-starting import, he could have come in as a second back replacing a non-import (Stala or Charbonneau-Campeau ).

However, you are correct that that depends on us having a backup non-import receiver on the roster, and we have no more after Charbonneau-Campeau, even on the PR. So they wouldn’t be able to do what I suggested above.

Never mind.

I'm not sure what game some of you were watching; however, I thought Tasker looked pretty good. He seems to play with lots of fire and he actually made some good catches on a few not so good throws. Also, considering he only had a few practices and has never used the waggle before I think he did a great job and seems to have a big upside. I can't wait to see him with Ellingson on the field together. Coach Austin continues to tweak the lineup and this team, while pretty young, is getting better.

Loyalty shmoyalty. I want to win. I liked the kid. He may have made some mistakes, but he held his own and laid a hit on a guy twice his size and was the least of our problems this week. He also didn't let Brooks push him around. I have to respect his grit. Of course he is no Ellingson. Ellingson is not normal lol. He also had quite a bit of experience in the arena league. I see some definite potential with this kid.

After the 3 starting import receivers they really did not have any good imports back up receivers. Gant was a back up but did not play that well so another import receiver who knew the offensive concepts made sense with Ellingson out. If Tasker bombed out, which he did not, CC could have come in at any time.
Austin just signed another speedy hybrid rec/Return specialist who spent the last three years with the skins in the NFL do not be shocked to see him in the line up as the returner this week.
Bigger problem that the Cats had was at Safety. Rookie king has had to start the last two games for another rookie starter in Courney Stephan. Difference is that Stepahn already has established himself as a good starting safety and King was exploited a couple of times.
King is a pretty good player for a rookie but not nearly as good as stephan.
Another rookie safety from Western is also pretty good as a future player but he was placed on the 9 game after being on the roster for one game to get more practice.

Luke was not the problem, It has now been three straight poor games for Hank.
I hope he has not hit the wall at his age?

I agree. This kid was sharp running his routes in his limited practice time. And as cflsteve stated, once he learns the waggle he should get even more separation. I think Coach Austin grabbed a good one here.

The young Tasker is good quite obviously.

The challenge is where you fit him into the offense?

Fantuz is the "find the space" receiver in one of the inside slot positions.

Ellingson is an interior route guy. Running rubs with Andy in order to get free. I see him as a an Andy-Light.

Grant can run out of the backfield or out of the slot or as a stationary WR. Only thing he lacks is stretch speed. He's tall & athletic & valuable in creating mismatches.

OJ can play all of the receiver positions as well as return punts/kicks. I love the guy. He does what is asked of him and achieves/performs every time.

Giguere ... Hope to have him back soon ... He stretches the field vertically ... Which is what they're looking for.

Stala ... no idea what to say. Make a block. Run faster than my mother. Do something other than look good on the sideline.

Newcomers ... Learn the Z Spot and stretch the field ... Run Forrest Run!

It will be hard to fit him into the starting lineup now but this does give them what should be a quality 4th import receiver. Jones, Grant, Ellingson all have pro experience and with Tasker being a true rookie straight out of Cornell and an NFL camp is in shape can do things but will not be counted on to be a top target.

Just 10 days after his arrival in town, young Tasker played his first ever professional football game (excluding any appearance he may [?] have made in the NFL pre-season with the Chargers). It was a game, new to him, with a different field and different rules. I believe 7 passes where intended for him --1 was off-target high, another well overthrown (might have been a route issue), and the last was intercepted deep in the endzone. The other 4 were completions for approximately 1, 14, 10 and 28 yards. The long one was a great diving catch in close coverage. I saw his performance as 4 catches for 53 yds -- 3rd best on the team in that game --3 yds total less than Grant, who also caught 4 -- and, a better average gain than the team's top receiver, on the day, Fantuz (7/90). Both the league and the team don't list his receptions anywhere in their game or season stats and several fans, here, have put up negative comments. I couldn't blame Luke if he's not too impressed with the CFL and Hamilton, so far. His performance deserves better.

Good points. Fair comment.

Exactly as I saw it.

I hope someone from the CFL site corrects the omission of his receptions soon. He deserved the recognition. His stats are up on CFL Live - yes, 4 for 53 is correct. (I’m surprised a certain someone hasn’t been all over MRX for this on the main forum. )
