Looking to the future

A couple of interesting articles about the Eskimos.

The first discusses how Edmonton won't be active in free agency, which I agree with. Not many of the free agents appeal to me. We're set at returner, kicker, running back, and with the recent trade with Toronto, wide receiver. So guys like DeAngelis, Cates, Watkins, while all good players, aren't needed to improve this team. The only free agent I can see us going after is Byron Parker, but I don't know if we'll get him. I imagine he'll come with a steep price tag.

The second discusses building through the draft, which I like. Let's get some good Canadian talent on this team. We have a total of five selections. I kind of wish we had a first-rounder, but what are you gonna do? At the end of the article, Danny M. mentions that the Eskimos will be making a few announcements in the near future. I'm kind of curious about that...

Chief I don't know if you go to Esksfans.com but here is a sad post from there on the Parker front.

An update on Parker, he just told Andre Talbot on Twitter that the Esks haven't even talked to him this offseason. I take back what I said about Parker not being committed to the team. I am disappointed that the Esks haven't tried to open some sorts of talks, but maybe they've come to the conclusion that they just can't afford him.

Here is another Post updating us on him

I would have loved to re-sign with the Esks, but I don't believe that it was on the managements to-do list. Although I didn't get a chance to interact with the fans as much as I would have liked, I had a great time playing in Edmonton. Just to let everyone know, my ultimate goal is to win a grey cup ring and not to break the bank. Once again, thank you to all who supported me during my short time in Edmonton and thank you to all who believe I am overrated. Hope to see you all soon.
Byron "HOPS" Parker 23

Unfortunately it does not sound as if he was ever in DM's plans for 2010.

If that's true, then that's pretty ridiculous. To not even give the guy an offer... come on. :?
