Long-Time College Coach Retiring. Successor?

What follows is the article on the guy who seems to have been running the University of Manitoba football program for 300 years - but its only 30 (or so). Brian Dobie - he’s retiring at about 71.

Best possible successor to Dobie = long-time CFL jack of all trades Paul LaPolice.
Welcome back to Manitoba PLOP.
You better take over this program. Its a good program with lots of cash and plays out of the Bomber’s 32,500+ professional stadium located smack-dab in the middle of the U of M campus.
Job is yours Plop. Just apply - - - -
Prolly pays $125,000 to $175,000 annually, too! (or more)

I have a couple of interactions with him last season.

Really a nice and grounded person. He will be missed for sure.

Dobie has had a really nice career. 2 jobs - longtime coach at Churchill High (when it had a decent football program) and longer time coach at U of M.
Shoulda won more than 1 Vanier though. A great recruiter of talent but his in-game decisions, particularly under pressure and with clock running down have been bizarre to say the least, especially last few years. U of M has struggled to be a .500 team - Dobie may look like a child but the guy is 72 or 73 and the wheels are grinding to a halt.
LaPolice would make a great replacement - prolly work this program for at least 10 years, as he’s only 54/55.
Plop’s ongoing problem is he’s terrified of pro football players, especially the malcontents. He’s a great teacher and possesses a brilliant offensive mind. The Bisons would be lucky to acquire his services. Also good with delivering speeches and basic community PR. So was Dobie. Dobie was a better PR guy than a head football coach.

Dobie is a class act compared to Blake Nill who might be putting on a show of some kind.

Dobie will no doubt get his flowers at a series of banquets. But right now I’m only concerned about his replacement.
