(CFL.ca wire) -- With the ink barely dry on his initial pro contract with the Calgary Stampeders, the fifth overall pick in the 2007 CFL Canadian Draft Justin Phillips will join CFL.ca on Thursday for an online chat beginning at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT).
Phillips, the top linebacker chosen in this year’s draft, was a member of the 2005 Vanier Cup champion Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. He was named a 2006 CIS Second Team All-Canadian and an OUA First Team All-Star.
The Kitchener, Ontario native finished second in the OUA with 5.5 sacks in seven games last season. He registered 16.5 tackles.
Phillips is the highest Golden Hawk to be selected on draft day since 1970, when Evald Timusk was selected third overall by the Edmonton Eskimos.
Phillips is the second of a number of online chats with drafted players to take place on CFL.ca prior to the start of training camp. First overall pick Chris Bauman joined the CFL.ca chat room last week. Click here for the transcript. Check back with CFL.ca for more details once they come available.
