MONTREAL – The BC Lions looked to be accepting a loss with less than a minute to go, but continued to fight and came out on top with a 21-20 win after a field goal as time expired against the Montreal Alouettes at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium on Saturday night.
Really exciting finish by the BC Lions and Rourke. Congrats for a well fought game. Montreal was just a fraction of a second from grabbing the victory. The saying it is never over until the final gun was made so true in this game. Thanks Als and Lions for a Saturday night of entertainment.
Agreed! Great game.
If Maas ever learns anger management ( yes, I believe in Santa) and Buck stops allowing or sending his short, prized QB to do sneaks for 2 yards, they will both have happier lives.
What a CFL finish! As a Lions fan, I was lamenting the sloppy play, especially with the penalties. I don’t see Edwards-Cooper lasting much longer. But the finish cured everything. The team is still a bit of a mess in matters of discipline and working as a team. Rourke looked rough at times and like the 2022 version at others. The O-line did a better job than I feared; without Allen they were able allow the time for Rourke to complete some of those long passes. Most importantly, this win will hopefully tighten the team, giving them momentum for the upcoming game with the Elks, a team Rourke devoured earlier this season.
Actually I believe you meant the Als were robbed of the W by the last second FG by Whyte. But in regards for the Riot at the end of the game, I think at least one Lion and one Al will get a suspension for causing that fight not just a fine. That was a disgusting display for the fans to see after the end a great game.
Henoc made an excellent point. He said they learned this in training camp; if the MTL defender hadn’t tackled Cottoy, the clock would have run out. Glad MTL didn’t learn this as it was a truly spectacular finish! But sadly, yeah, the fight at the end made it ugly. Sore losers.
Maas looked like he was going to explode… and then that fight broke out on the sidelines during his post game interview. He wanted to deck someone so bad.
In my opinion a head coach needs to have better control of his emotions. Show passion yes, but acting like a schoolboy whenever things go the wrong way does not set a good example for your players or create respect for yourself or inspire confidence. A leader is supposed to be calm and cool and above that stuff. People who can’t control their anger can’t be trusted to make rational decisions in the heat of the moment.
Case in point. Maas appeared to be upset about something with just over 3 minutes left and for some reason called a timeout, which I questioned in the game thread. A coach in control of his emotions wouldn’t have called the timeout and BC wouldn’t have had the time to come back and win the game with no time left.
We were too busy making wardrobe decisions and booking lakeside accomodations for the bye week to have our minds in the Calgary game. Sometime during the 2nd quarter Coach Dickenson mischievieously sent a text to Zach Colaros telling him that Bomber luggage had been sent to Orlando by mistake so there was no way our offense wasn’t going to go three and out for the rest of the half.
Then there was the issue of red M&M’s getting mixed in with the other M&M’s when Bomber Training staff clearly specified that the snack bowl should be free of Calgary jersey colours since it interferes with our team mantra.
Sheesh. No wonder the pregame yoga routine seemed ‘off’.
