Lions beat Stamps to earn another Western Final trip

That’s the beauty of it: no matter who wins next Saturday, we are in for a whopper of a Grey Cup. Only hope the key players for the two clubs that advance are in good health for the big game. Who wants to see the Maier-led Riders battle the MBT-led Larks?

don’t agree with this. I think the Lions play calling was suspect and so was some of the execution, especially the offensive line - their play was offensive lol. There is no way Rourke played worse than Collaros and it can be argued he didn’t actually play worse than Adams. yes the numbers favour the latter, but Adams’s clock management mistake was pretty bad and there were some throws that he had open that he over threw. Rourke made the key plays when they needed, and he led the lions in rushing - his long runs were critical to keeping the drives going and scoring when the passing and butler were stalling.

the stars of this game were the stamps defence and lions special teams. you could really tell the stamps defence watched a lot of film and did their homework. hats off to the defensive coordinator too because he called an excellent game and they executed almost perfectly.

I don’t agree although it was close. Rourke didn’t have his usual dominant outing. He made done big plays and also some mistakes. Zach was lights out second half and made his mistakes early and played against a better defence. The game slipping away late was because the Bomber defence couldn’t stop them, not because of Zach. Alexander was lights out first half, not very good most of the second half but also made big plays when necessary. Adams was better than Rourke most of the day (and I have read many similar opinions), but made some egregious mistakes, most notably costing his team a critical 3 points at the end of the first half.

Overall my eye test tells me that Rourke was the lesser of the four yesterday and he didn’t feel nearly as much pressure as Zach, who is relatively immobile. It was one game and just goes to show me that no QB is always or easily the best or the worst.

Bc was awful, but the stamps were consistently aided by the officials. Center bobs his head and Lions get called offside, instead of the procedure call. Calgary line was holding all game, but bc got the only holding penalty. And i dunno how the review booth didn’t call that can opener on hatcher as pi. The lions oline collapsed way too easy, Rourke held onto the ball for far too long. Pierce made zero adjustments at half time, but then again, he never has… he’s been going for that run up the middle all season and it rarely works. Pierce has very vanilla play calling. Tbh I don’t see the lions beating the riders, they have no answers for Harris’ quick throws and their soft zone leaves far too many guys open, we saw it last week before he was pulled, so unless he gets hurt early, it should be an easy victory for Sask.

I think that we should enroll Maier in parachute lessons…….and once he has had 2 or 3 jumps then we could all chip in and buy him a parachute.

( Would Calgary take him back if we threw in a couple draft picks? , maybe 100 bushels of wheat , couple of herford cows ? )

why are you guys taking about riders and als? they didn’t even play in this game

Yes let’s stay on thread topic please.

At present there are so many active threads that finding one to fit what you want to talk about shouldn’t be difficult.

Very close game.
It came down to who made the one or possibly two critical errors.
That was the Stampeders.
No quarterback ever has a totally perfect game, it just so happened the one huge error VA made was the clock management fiasco at the end of the first half.
Normally that would not have mattered in most games. But for sure it sticks out in a close game

Also, the last possession the Stamps had… All they needed was a first down and the play call was two shots into the end zone. Ended up giving Rourke just enough time to get the team in position for a walk off 3 pointer.

Unfortunately, you were not the only one who missed both games. I don’t know what the CFL was thinking moving the playoff games from Sunday to Saturday. Not only does it have to compete with the NCAA, it really hurts Usports. I was looking at the attendance at the playoffs in Usports on Saturday, games that should have brought in a lot of people. Only 1800 people attended the game between the Thunderbirds and the Huskies in Saskatoon. In Regina which will host the Vanier Cup later this month, it was even worse with less than 1200 attending. Even Montreal which usually gets 8000 to 10000, only had 3600. Only Laval in Quebec City had 11000. Why is the CFL doing this? The Carabins in Montreal were in direct competition with the Alouettes. How was this even possible?

I know the CFL is trying to avoid competition with the Americans. But true CFL fans are not affected by that. And there is so much more American football on Saturday. CFL please revist your decision.

The CFL does this to avoid head to head competition with the NFL on Sundays. A wise and necessary move considering twice as many Canadians watch the NFL as the CFL. That’s just the way it is.

I don’t doubt that university football suffers somewhat on Saturdays as a result, but that is minor $ wise compared to what it would cost the CFL to play on Sundays. I’m also not sure why it would be worse now as the CFL always plays on Saturdays, anywhere from 1-3 games.
