VANCOUVER — The BC Lions have acquired American quarterback Dane Evans in a trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the team announced on Thursday. In exchange, the Ticats will receive a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft.
Well that’s a bit of a surprise I would say. Naylor had him going to Toronto. You can’t say that the Lions don’t need him. It remains to be seen whether they ask him to renegotiate his contract. If they don’t the Lions should have the most expensive QB’s in the league, the complete opposite of last year.
Have to imagine they would massively restructure Evans's contract. Assuming they can make the cap numbers work, I think Adams enters camp as the no. 1 and Evans as the veteran backup. But now the Lions have great QB depth in case Adams gets injured or underperforms.
Poor Adams and Dom Davis, by the way. Second consecutive offseason something like this happens to them. (last time, it was Harris signing in Montreal after Davis had signed and the Als neglecting to mention it to Adams.)
I don't know about that. I think Campbell is happy to keep Adams as his starter. Evans is a good reliable back up so I seriously would be surprised if Adams gets traded to either team. But it just might be in the Cards for Toronto to up the Anti and do a deal with BC for Evans if Campbell is looking for a trade. The Argos have been spending a lot for players and just might be desperate enough to give a significant trade deal away.
I didn't see that trade coming either. Toronto pulling the trigger for Dane Evans would've made more sense to me. What a shocker.
The last time I was THIS caught off guard by player movement in the CFL I was watching Doug Brown carry a sofa from one side of his rec room to the other.
