But, it is always nice to hear others voicing their agreement!
Amateur football has different timing rules so 2 hours is a stretch…
maybe Trump will put a tariff on all Canadian Players who play in the NFL… then the fans will watch and cheer for the CFL… lol
Imagine every league has threads about how they can improve.
I operated the game clock for Concordia Stinger home games in 2008… thanks
So you witnessed first hand just how bad they were
Improving the game day experience in the ground is critical. The paying fans that buy tickets what to see the play at pace, not hanging about. That requires play to be as continuous as possible. We don’t need the time filled with stuff, get on with the game. No time outs. TV needs to fit around the live game, as it does in most other sports (eg Soccer).
Soccer is extremely boring to watch. Such a big field, with too many defenders. 90 minutes of running up and down with hardly any shots on goal, and even less scores per game. But that’s not the worst part!! All the time invested watching the game, and having it end a tie makes this game not just boring, but a waste of time.
They should shorten the field, widen the goals, and play without goalies!
A baseball game is a close 2nd.
(although the pitch clock has really helped)
No offside, allow the players to pick up the ball too… very soon we get to Australian football…
I was using soccer as an example of a game where the TV fit around the game. Australian football is almost the same, there they add a bit of time after a goal is scored for TV. There is a natural break to reset the sides for the restart anyway, so the extra time to accommodate TV is no more that 10 or 15 seconds.
what does that have to do with believing the CFL could get their games down to 2 hours? Amateur timing and clock work is different than Pro. not to mention TV time outs etc.
well, they did start using commerical ads while still showing the game a number of seasons ago… I think they can’t completely remove commercials but they could put a lot more of the during game Ads into the broadcast an eliminate half of the full commercials.
I say if the soccer player goes down with an injury they keep playing, no stopping. they can go cart off the player quickly while the play is in the other end.
like the old football cartoons
CFL, USports and the CJFL have 15 minute quarters. They all have 3 minute warnings in both halfs with associated clock stoppages. There are 12 minute quarters in many high school jurisdictions, but not at the USports or CJFL level.
I was suggesting that the CFL and its broadcast partner might benefit in quality from reducing or eliminating TV timeouts aside from halftime. I can appreciate if you think this is impossible because of lost or irreplaceable revenue. But the amount of time it takes hypothetically to play a CFL, CJFL or USports level Canadian football game without commercials would be essentially the same.
I may be the exception, but I am all for TV timeouts and old timey commercials. This gives me the opportunity to go to the bathroom or make a snack or refresh a drink without missing any action if I am watching live, which is normally the case if I am on a game thread. If I am watching on PVR delay I just zip through commercials if I don’t need a break.
What I can’t stand is ads zipping across the screen or split screens that are difficult to see. They are distracting and take away from the viewing experience on CFL games and regular TV shows or movies. I make sure I don’t ever buy the product that irritates me with such ads. I may be old school, but I am happy that I don’t have the attention span of a 20 year old and I do not require something zipping across the screen every 5 seconds or loud noises to maximize my viewing experience.
Commercials pay for the league. Keep them coming!
Commercials pay for other leagues too, I like the idea in soccer where they are on the flash boards across from the cameras, they don’t flash across the screen or split screen.
I don’t watch soccer much and am not familiar with what you describe, but that sounds better than flashing crap on the screen while the game is being played.
just watch an Argo game and the boards on the sidelines at BMO. That is one reason why both teams are on the same sideline, the video boards run the length of the field
someday we will have a stadium called the Canadian Tire Tim Hortons RBC Speedy Auto Glass Cargill Allied Van LInes place
Or just the CTTHRBCSAGCAVL stadium for short .
