Promote, celebrate and appreciate IWS for the next five years.
Let's sell out the joint and show her a good send off.
Thanks IWS!
I'll miss ya!

Man, I will miss this stadium. Too many good memories to count. Like Captain says cherish every last year and sell it out. There will never be another stadium like this one.
Ill miss it!! And it was a great place to watch football… but if hab fans can survive after the forum… and yankee fans can survive after the original yankee stadium… us Ticat fans can and will survive after IWS.
Regardless of what they build, I’m sure a lot of people will try to compare it to IWS, and curse the city for getting rid of it, but change is good! The new stadium will have its plusses and its drawbacks… just like IWS!
And Im sure in 80 years or so after we’re all gone (well most of us:P) all the ticat fans will be talking about how they’ll miss the old pan am stadium (or whatever its called) and the new stadium in the clouds (tis the fad in 2090 you know…) just wont be the same.
Yes, life moves on, Maple Leaf Gardens, Montreal Forum, Yankee Stadium, Texas Stadium - and Ivor Wynne Stadium. But the future is bright and I believe in the future, a positive future for all.
Go TiCats Go!!!!!!!!!!
All of those old stadiums have been replaced with state of the art buildings.... Im worried ours will be a tin can like BMO field, we dont get a new stadium that often PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do it right.
That’s something I’ve been concerned about. That like BMO field, it’ll be built on as low a budget as possible. But I understand that our caretaker will contribute millions of dollars to construction of it. As long as it’ll be a good place to see a game, and will be more likely to make the team profitable, then it’ll be what we need.
As for IWS, we are going to miss it. I do not live near Hamilton and am unable to make it to many games at IWS. But knowing that I won’t get many chances to see games at what can be considered the Fenway Park or Wrigley Field of the CFL, I for one expect to make it to more games. And I expect to enjoy each of the last opportunities to see games at what has been a great place to see CFL games. I can already imagine what that last game there will be like.
And the following quote comes to mind when it comes to IWS and the stadium that will replace it:
“People will come… they’ll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they’ll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They’ll find they have reserved seats… where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they’ll watch the game and it’ll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they’ll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come…”
I have Photo of IWS from 2006 Seaon that part of Season ticket Thank you
I Framed it to I looked at and Got real sad ..
There no place like IWS for game .
The New Stadium Sight line will never be as Good
I promise you that .. .

To that Stadium is the Tigercats ..
I can't see them playing anywhere else.
Have your Steel Stadium
I'll take IWS
How much can a replica like Ivor Wynne cost? Obviously updated from a structure point of view, but cement at least.
What can that honestly cost???
That’s what I was saying days ago… put the damn thing ANYWHERE you want… but make it a replica of the grand ole girl and our TC world will be rosy!!
Then name it Always Wynne Stadium… we can’t go wrong then!!!
Your Forgetting about the Track ..
The City will never want the Track removed..

Simple…
build seats over the track… and make them retractable!!!
Onknight, Civic Stadium use to have a track, to you see it now? They will be tearing the track out while the athletes are still packing for home.

That’s not a crazy idea and here’s why…
During the era of the multi-purpose stadium that ended the era of the neighbourhood concrete and steel stadium in baseball(That would be from the mid-60’s with Shea stadium in New York and Busch Stadium in St.Louis)from the mid-'60’s until the late '80’s(Skydome would be the final one of those abominations),fans and players alike constantly complained about the sterile nature of those parks.I remember reading a comment by Andy Van Slyke, who played for both the St.Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates, when asked about the nuances of different ballparks. He said unless he saw a city limits sign somewhere,he could’nt tell the difference between the stadiums in Pittsburgh,Cincinatti,St.Louis,Philadelphia,etc.
Thankfully, that era came to an end in the late '80’s and early '90’s,sort of starting with Comiskey ParkII in Chicago, and coming completely to the fore with Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore.Since then, almost all the new ballparks(and there have been many constructed)have been built with a retro feel to them in terms of visbility and field proximity, but with modern fan amenities necessary that the old concrete and steel parks did’nt have.
I don’t want to see this new park built like a no frills park like BMO.I’d like to see the braintrust take a look at some of the unique things about Ivor Wynne and try to incorporate them into this new park.Building the place along the same lines as Ivor Wynne, but with modern amenities is something I could live with…
One more thing, and I know it probably won’t happen, but it would be very nice and could potentially be an advantage for the Cat’s…
A natural grass playing surface…Say “NO!” to the plastigrass…
Epperly,
Really enjoyed your post until the natural grass comment when all of a sudden I thought I was reading a TFC forum and the whiners there about artificial turf. It was a great read up until that point.

I just really dislike artificial turf of any type.I think football should played on grass. And in this 8 team league(maybe 9?)and almost all using the fake stuf,I think it would refreshing to see another natural surface.I’m 95% certain it won’t happen, but it would b nice to see…
TFC…Is that a fried chicken restaurant,or something?
Well, I prefer natural grass as well but artificial turf is cheaper in the long run and gets more use by the community as it doesn't get ripped up by high schools and that. I do think it's more important for soccer than for football to have natural grass with how the ball behaves on turf compared with grass.
I'll defer to you on the soccer front.I know very little about it.
I realize it's cheaper to maintain and can get multiple use out of it,but that begs the question about why high school teams are using a professional football stadium to play games that could be played on any field in the city?
Let the high school teams play at Ron Joyce.Let the pro's play at (insert new name here) Field.
Please let's not hijkack this thread.
We're already discussing the new stadium. and new stadium ideas in other threads.
I wanted this thread to be about IWS, memories and appreication of the last few seasons we will get from it.
Anyone have any old pictures of the girl that they could share?
Can anyone identify this as Civic stadium?
