I'm not a big Lenny fan, and totally would've loved to see someone like the Hip, but certainly can't hold it against the organizers for bringing in someone as top-shelf as this. I think they should be commended.
I think we can still celebrate Canadiana by inviting guests from elsewhere. But I'd still like to see the Can-con factor stay proudly strong.

the real american woman as recorded by the guess who was a protest song against nixon and the vietnam war.
the guess who, scruffy guys from winnipeg, were invited to play the white house, but were told not to play the anti-war song, american woman.
so the guess who showed up stoned in their scruffy t-shirts (one advertising a winnipeg amplifier shop) played for a huge nixon party, and then ripped off a 35-minute version, with extra-special lyrics, of american woman.
it must've been quite the scene.
