Leave it up to Sportsnet to write negative articles....

Grey Cup week naturally, and surprise surprise. Sportsnet has already written 2 negative based articles on the CFL.

like seriously... really? they can't resist can they?

the 2nd one isn't as bad but it can't avoid mentioning negative stuff.

Referee's anounced for the 99th Cup showdown in Van.

Sportsnet would kill to get ratings that TSN gets for the CFL. And speaking of softening ratings Mr. Brunt you fail to mention that NFL ratings have "softened" even more than the CFL's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ah, the dependably consistent prejudice of Sportsnet..

This is what happens when the competition (TSN) accords excellent revenue from a sports property that Sportsnet/Rogers is not privy to.

Jealous much Sportsnet? :stuck_out_tongue:

Those grapes must be mighty sour. :x

I didn't even waste my time with the first article. He mentions Stern and Bettman who are two of the worst Commissioners in sports, it doesn't matter if both have been around for 20 years. Their respective sports have suffered under them. How they've lasted this long will forever remain a mystery to me. If you ask me, both leagues are long overdue for new commissioners.

i have 20 twenty-somethings comming to my house sunday for the big game. i don't know what this guy saying CFL is only for the old is going on about?

There was a guy on Sportsnet, Ian Mendes, who wrote a totally stupidly ridiculous article on why the Grey Cup wasn't worthy of attention.
He got flamed so bad they pulled the article after awhile.
This guy is your typical Hogtowner who gets his sports infomation from ESPN, and who hasn't travelled past Mississauga

And why does any CFL fan give Sportsnet any significant amount of attention?

I didn't feel the negativity in either of the articles. They each were closer to laments than rants.

The first article lamenting the lack of stable leadership at the top. The second ; titled Canada's Great Tradition - lamenting the fact (or their perception) that the younger generations are missing one hell of an annual party. Nope, fairly positive, actually, upon further reflection.

Some are making too much out of this. Its like looking for any excuse to dis someone. I have hated for decades those that I deem to have negative influence and attitude re the CFL. However, I find these articles to be very tame, almost nuetral compared to so many others. Why not just ignore this stuff and enjoy the gameweek? Specially if it bothers you so much

I had the same sense reading those articles.

Not true, you have to know the history of such ink stained scribes and especially Brunt and Simmons who have been continuously negative.
How sad and no wonder the rest of the country hates Toronto and the wannabe US pro NFL factor.

Anybody else besides me see the irony/hypocrisy in this post?

Say what?

I did not find the article negative.

The CFL had a bad year in Toronto, with TV ratings and with the excitement of the season. Next year will be better.

The league, as always, needs to find ways to generate more revenue and help Toronto survive. Other than that, as Brunt says, these are (relatively) good times for the CFL.

Let's just support our teams, enjoy the Grey Cup and let tomorrow take care of itself.

:D

All right, so why not expand on the "relatively good times" and forget about his negativety which he does on a regular basis?

There it is again!

I would like to have those 5 minutes of my life back. Stephen Brunt is a knob. I always hear people say Brunt is one of the best sport reporters in Canada...well if that's the case what does that say about our country? That was pure horsecrap. LOL is he that desperate to spin negativity?

Oh and Benji and Argotom, you guys will enjoy this gem from Brunt: http://fifthdown.blogs.nytimes.com/2008 ... the-bills/

Why would anyone waste their time on anything from the Rogers channel. They are nothing more than a glorified Blue Jay TV. Outside of baseball (2nd most boring spectator sport ahead of only golf) they hold very little of interest to a majority Canadian sports fans. The one Canadian commodity they have, the CHL, they treat like a whore.

Sportsnet could care less about the CFL, with their purchase of Setanta Canada they are obviously steering themselves closer to a Euro sports channel with their CanCon coming from MLS and the Jays.
