League of Legends tournament coming to 2020 Grey Cup Festival

:open_mouth: When I first saw this I thought it was some type of football tournament featuring the old timers.

Not sure what a computer game has to do with the Grey Cup... Must want a piece of that big esports gaming pie.

And people complain the league is doing nothing trying to attract a younger audience.

E spots has become a big business these days and virtual entertainment takes a bite out of brick and mortar type business which includes pro sports.

No issue here with this endeavor

Great idea to attract some attention from a different group.

Too Bad there wasn't a CFL game to have a big Esports tournament attached to Grey Cup.

They could play Madden.

The thing that’s been a real hit has been team-play games - League of Legends and DOTA 2 are both 5v5. Other games like Starcraft 2 and various fighting games do well as 1v1 competitions but sports games really haven’t caught on as much as you thought they would.

I think if they need to appeal to gamers this way, it will not result in notable more fans in the stands.

I think it would be better to do, or continue to do, to get more kids out actually playing some kind of football with CFL players involved.

don't think my English is right in last sentence, but cant for the life of me figure out how to fix it. :confounded:

Would make more sense to have a flag football tournament for the kids.

League of Legends combatanats - CFL fans... pretty big disconnect. Better to showcase grassroots football - flag or otherwise.

I think this is just something along the lines of the party-type events put on by the teams. It gives fans something fun to do during the festivities, and it will hopefully appeal to a younger demographic and give them another reason to keep returning to Grey Cup weeks.
