Latest on Mike Kelly (WInnipeg oriented)

From chatgpt:

Mike Kelly was fired from his position as head football coach at Widener University in 2018 due to concerns related to his conduct. Specifically, his dismissal was connected to inappropriate behavior, which was reportedly inconsistent with the standards expected by the university. The details surrounding the exact nature of the conduct weren’t fully disclosed, but the decision to terminate his employment reflected the university’s commitment to maintaining a certain standard of professional and ethical behavior within its athletic programs.

What he’s doing now:

I always liked the guy. He provided pizzazz to the league. Sort of a Dick Vitale for the league. Hope he gets back into coaching

As long as he never coaches the Blue Bombers again. He had so much bravado that he essentially told the other team what he was going to do before the game and at the same time shortened up the playbook. Shotgun only? Seriously…

Would have preferred seeing Mike Kelly coach the Elks at the beginning of this year instead of Chris Jones. Nothing wrong with Chris Jones but Mike is sort of the Lee Corso of the CFL. Remember the coaches and players are deep down inside entertainers.

I mean it may sound weird, but I’d look forward to hearing and seeing Mike arguing with the media between games. That would have intrigue for the local fans to go to Edmonton’s home games

That’s not a winning or long term strategy

The future is now. He was a winner for a bit in Winnipeg and a winner at Widener

I don’t recall very much winning in Winnipeg with him. Checked his record and it was 7-11. Even the first 9 games was 3-6…

I still want him back

The one thing I remember about him was the red headed stepchild Paul Friesen wouldn’t let it go and ranted on Kelly for years afterward. Made me feel sorry for Kelly.

Friesen gained his moment of fame getting mentioned in the classic Hitler new Winnipeg stadium video

Mike Kelly IMO was/is an idiot, but at times a funny idiot.
On his CJOB radio call in show, when a caller would tell Mike what he’s doing wrong, Mike would reply…I don’t come down to your work and tell you how much salt to put on the fries or he’d say it football, not rocket surgery. See a funny idiot

He’s an entertainer and he doesn’t know it. He should have been coaching Edmonton right now.

“Handled internally… Not a problem. What are you not getting? Handled internally.”

A clown hired to do a kids birthday party is also an entertainer …just saying is all .

You guys are being too hard on him. The same could be said about Bill Belichick when he was finishing out the season with the Cleveland Browns.

Same is true with Lou Holtz when he coached the New York Jets.

Both became legends after a disastrous start

Kelly hasn’t been associated with the CFL for going on some 15 plus years now . The big question is unless you are just trolling (as usual) why would you give a flying fig about someone who hasn’t been around for that amount of time ?

He stopped coaching in 2018 and it’s transferable skills from the NCAA to the CFL. If wasn’t 15+ years. It was 6 years.

From his twitter/X account: Eastern Division Champion in the CFL,XFL,NFL. Collegiate Head Coaching record of 50-35. 2 NCAA Play-offs, 2 Grey Cup & 2 NFC Championship appearances, 2 Bowls

He doesn’t have to apologize for anything

Well Mike Kelly is about as far from a legend as you can get. I was dismayed to even see a topic on this scumbag and have finally been able to do some quick checking on the shady background I remember he had. He was a train wreck that impugned both the Bombers and Winnipeg and there is no reason to associate him with Winnipeg as they did fire him eventually once his wife beating shenanigans became known.

Kelly served as the head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2009.[5] Kelly also coordinated the offense for half of the season, in which the team went 7–11 missing a home playoff berth by a single game. On December 17, 2009, Kelly was arrested in Bridgeport, Pennsylvania and charged with assault and harassment following a domestic dispute at his home. Kelly was fired from his post with Winnipeg later that day. Ken Hildahl, chairman of the Blue Bombers, indicated that Kelly’s dismissal was due to the performance of the team, not the incident earlier that day.[6][7][8][9] The charges were dropped after Kelly took anger management counseling

The above was lifted from Kelly’s Wikipedia page. I recall there being other incidents and questionable behaviour and just outright craziness.

I also question why you would start a thread on this misogynist turkey other than to troll and would love to delete this based on principle, but free speech and all that. Hopefully no one bothers to engage or give any credence to Mike Kelly. I hope also not to see threads such as “The Soft Side of Chad Kelly” or “Peter Nygard: Great Businessman”.

No, but they are being hard on your arguments… All posts do hold water or make sense.

Hey, i remember the Bridgeport thing, sort of. Didn’t an ex GF break into his place and he got arrested for trying to forcibly remove her? The rest he seemed to earn but always thought this was a bit much. But then again i always have sided with the homeowner when break ins are involved.

Funny being a veteran of this Forum. Fifteen years ago Bomber fans fiercly defended the man. He had a little Posse who went around the three forums of interest at the time taking on anyone who spoke negatively about the man, at the time I use to take photo editing software and make Memes of Mike and the mods would take them down, until eventually admitting they were funny. Fifteen years later, people who have to “research” the man tell us how much of a scumbag he is (is not the case btw) and people bringing him up are offensive trolls. I guess we have to put up with the researchers… Freedom of speach and all. If I had to give a nickname to Mike it would be “Pagliacci”.

For what its worth i am a Rider fan and don’t care for the Bombers. A problem made worse when fans dumped beer on me in the stands in Winnipeg in the 80’s just for wearing green. I hold a grudge lol. Still i hate to see someone get railroaded like he did.

I would not say he got railroaded. The hate started in the locker room with a certain defensive linesman who had God status in Winnipeg and another vet or two and this gradually contaminated the media, who being what they are jumped on the bandwagon, he also created a lot of problems for himself. Like sending Murphy to spy on Hamilton’s practice and getting caught by non other than today’s Assistant GM Danny MacManus, then the charges of domestic abuse brought by the GF which she later recanted I believe. At that point the board had had enough and fired him in anger. The lovely Winnipeg yellow belly media in glee snaped unflattering pictures of him walking around with garbage containers or garbage bags as he cleared his office. Mike was a good football coach and loved the CFL passionately, he just did not have the tools and maturity to manage relationships, in the end it tanked his career.
