Sorry to see Larry leave the field of play . His talent will be missed by the CFL fans. But really Roughriders’ Player Personnel Coordinator in Football Operations. Couldn’t he be used as a coach instead of a fancy titled office worker? Sounds like a sympathy made up position.

Just a little surprised. I was wondering what was going on there. Likely wasn’t offered what he wanted money wise or no one made an offer attractive enough to move for.

He has always played a little light for a MLB and made up for it with speed.

Always a respectful competitor - I can’t remember him being fined or suspended in his career. Which is saying something now days…

Sounds like a legitimate opportunity to me.

Sounds like a legitimate opportunity to me.

Never said it wasn’t, I just thought with the year he had last year he might get another year or two in as a player.

Or to ease him into coaching or for a multitude of other reasons.

Troy Westwood would sing a song about someone like Larry Dean…on sports radio.

Two first names,
Two first names,
You can call me Larry,
You can call me Dean,
No last name,
No last name.

I corrected the lyrics…
Troy did a lot for both Bombers and Rider’s rivalry

I think he single handey ensured sell outs for the week after labour day for perpetuity in the Peg.
I also do not know any Rider fan that sees the Rider Bomber rivalry as anything but
A great and fun time

Dean was one of the surest tacklers in the league in his heyday. Nice to see him go out on top. Great players often outstay their welcome - won’t mention names. But there are more than a handful this year who haven’t got much interest. Not surprising.

Outside of a few positions where careers can last a little longer, once you hit 32, maybe 33 you’re on borrowed time. The fall is often dramatic. The good teams ideally part ways with even great players a year or 2 before their best before date.
