Larks @ Sweetness and Light Play-by-Play Thread

Good morning.

This is THE MOST IMPORTANT (regular season) GAME OF THE YEAR!!!

WHO: Montreal Alouettes vs Hamilton Tiger=Cats.

WHAT: The final regular-season game.

WHERE: Alumni Field at the University of Guelph, in Guelph Ontario.

WHEN: Kick-off is at 1:00pm (1300hrs, or 1700Z for those inclined).

WHY: This game goes a long way to deciding the team with home-field advantage in the EDSF. If the Ti-Cats win, they play in Guelph. If the Larks win, the blew team has to beat them, and we have to beat Staggerville next week to secure second place in the East.

HOW: TSN, 900 CHML, and other media that I'm too lazy to look up. TSN starts off the |Pre-Game at 12:30pm (1230hrs or 1630Z).

As others have mentioned, the weather is going to be crappy in Guelph today. That's fine by me, as football SHOULD be played outside, in every condition possible; save lightning, tornadoes, and alien invasion. Heck, This game is so important, Austin could probably sign a couple of those aliens for pass protection. Under the CBA, they would count as non-imports...

All that being said, OSKIE WEE-WEE!!! OSKIE WA-WA!!! HOLEY MACKINAW!!! TIGERS... EAT 'EM RAW!!!!!!!!!!

HERE,BIRDIE,BIRDIE!!!!DINNER'S SERVED!!! EAT EM RAW :rockin: :rockin:

Uh Tiger-Cats sounds more ferocious than sweetness and light, that was the team that showed up last weekend!

Love the photos. Look at the focus of the two cats that are close to the kill. That is the kind of focus the Cats should play with.

BTW - the 1700Z, Is that zulu time and how is it calculated? I've heard of it but I'm not sure how it works.

It is indeed Zulu time, otherwise known as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). During the half of the year that falls under "daylight savings time (DST)", GMT is 5 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST). When we are not in DST, as we are now, GMT is 4 hours ahead. Therefore 1:00pm = 1300hrs (local) = 1700hrs Zulu.

Thank you sir for that excellent explanation.

From Drew’s Blog:

Thwarting the Montreal blitz would certainly help. The Alouettes brought pressure on almost every snap last week and the Ticats seemed ill prepared to cope with it.

“We have to show them if you bring a certain blitz package, we know exactly what we’re going to do with the ball and were going to move the chains. We can frustrate them," Burris said. “If we make those adjustments, make those plays it’s a much different afternoon.?

This is the key to a Cats’ win today. I’m not sure why they couldn’t “make those adjustments” for last week’s game but it is what it is. Hank seems to know what the solution is. If Austin and Condell got the memo, things should work out just fine.

Zulu time (now UTC - universal time code) is the time at the prime meridian through Greenwich England, the original site of the Royal Observatory. Since the world rotates west to east the time in England is 5 time zones ahead of us here in the Eastern time zone. But, to further confuse things we go to daylight savings time, essentially moving us 1 time zone east to be only 4 time zones behind Greenwich.
To get UTC or Zulu (I still use the Z) add 4 to the local hour (the minutes remain the same) during Daylight savings Time and 5 for the rest of the year.
A further complication enters the frame when you consider this to be on a 24 hour, not a 12 hour clock. The hours to noon are unchanged but referred to in the hundreds ie 9AM is 0900, 9:15 would be 0915. This goes to noon being 1200. 1PM on the 24 hour clock is 1300, 2PM 1400 and on to 2400 - midnight. To obtain these add 1200 to the PM hour, ie 6PM is 1200+600=1800.

As we don’t go back to EST until next weekend, shouldn’t then today’s game time have been shown as 1800 hrs Zulu?

Just re-checked the Exeter Station radar, at 1545 hrs Zulu, a little under 2 & 1/2 hrs. before game time, and it shows the rain should have all past Guelph by kickoff. But it’ still going to feel cold and damp.

Oops! Ignore the first part of my post above and change my radar viewing time to 14:45 Zula. I misread your post DCF. it’s now clear to me.

woooo warmups would be a little stinky out there hopefully the rain is gone by gametime! We'll have some Saskatchewan style wind conditions for the game today, if the winds are swirling, should be an interesting day for Bartel Congi et al.

Oskie Wa Wa!!!!!

If jock climie is on the panel today ill do my best to not violently throw my remote control through the tv if he goes over the top with his hard core love affair with the larks and members of the team....
