Pretty fancy footwork on that onside kick the other night. Looked like an optical illusion the first couple of times I saw it, even in slo mo. Somewhere, Connor McDavid leaned forward in his chair and whispered “daaaammmmnnn” under his breath.
Not sure if people on Rider staff are aware but “Don’t Flinch” was the title of the book written by Wisconsin Badgers legendary football coach, Barry Alvarez.
What this all boils down to is that we seem to have the look of a lot of parity in the league. The 2-0 teams could easily be 1-1 & the 0-2 teams 1-1 as well.
From the looks of this week’s schedule though, there’s a good chance two of the winless teams may be going to 0-3. Good thing there’s a long season ahead.
I feel like this is going to be an epic season but I do think Winnipeg, Zach specifically, is on the downward slope of their/his apex and will struggle all season. I do agree, though, there is a great deal of parity and it should make for an epic season.
I don’t understand why tsn and this website spend so much time sucking up to the elk. You’re not supposed to sound like the Edmonton radio play by play team all the time. Yet you do.
Zach digressed last year - I can name 6 games where he was mediocre to plain bad. He has had a tendency to throw bad INT’s, the last 2 GC’s good examples of that. Too soon for me to write him off though.
In 2022 it was the so called “Unfinished Business” tour. Last year - the “Still Unfinished Business” Tour??? Are we running out of encores for the old guys? IMO 2024 is going to be the “Farewell Tour” for guys like Bighill (though he still WANTS to play) & Bryant to name 2.
The problem in Winnipeg is NOT that they aren’t a talented team. The problem is a lot of the rest of the league seems to have caught up with them - & with much younger, faster, players. This is particularly notable in the trenches on both sides.
The Draft recently and especially in 2024 presents really excellent players. And the US Spring Leagues, with 1/2 as many teams, are not sucking away so much good talent. We have Sankey and MBT back north of the border, and there must be several other players who I just don’t know from the USFL/XFL who are on rosters now. Montreal has Stevie Scott on the PR. The first two weeks have been as entertaining as anyone could hope for.
Yes, I agree with this. Four years at the top of the league means Winnipeg has been the standard, but nothing lasts forever. I think youth and physicality are a bit lacking in Winnipeg at the moment. But really, the biggest issue is injury.
