Labor Day weekend schedule

Glad the league has a pair of games on Monday this weekend since a lot of people are off from work this Monday. Not looking forward to the fireworks, picnics, parade stuff this weekend so skipping out on that to watch some CFL would be great

I just wish the league would have a single game on American soil this weekend like in New York with Toronto as one of the teams. Lost opportunity in my opinion with the NFL on a bye week before their week 1.

You really should read up more on the history of the CFL, for this has been a reality for a long time.

Sorry, there is no US expansion in the works, including changing of any rules to suit your plans, but there is another real league now in the US known as the UFL, which uses real stadiums like any viable league, which plays in the spring.

As much as you posted about “alternative football” before, there’s something real for you to actually check out starting by March.

There’s no “lost opportunity” in the US this weekend, so your statement is BS as well.

There are plenty of sports in the US all weekend already including much NCAA football, so either enjoy those sports and quit whining, or just go pound more sand.

Enjoy the games on Monday like every season, and again, read up more on some history here.

Labour Day is the biggest weekend of the regular season where hosting teams (and the week after) get their biggest crowds of the year.

Why would it make any financial sense to move a game to a neutral market?

Yes the Lions are in Victoria but it’s their market and sold out in minutes. Seems like an opportunity wasn’t lost.

If they do a neutral site game in the US, do it in late June.

BUT only IF it is played in a Home Depot parking lot .

I don’t desire it, but I fear more greatly now that in the upcoming football off-season, the second edition of the Domed Stadium in Chicago for the CFL thread could emerge.

I do recall that my vote in the associated site poll was for a submersible dome in the style of legendary Legion of Doom, as those who go back far enough like me may recall.

Ah, good times, but times best left in the past, but who knows any more.

The Lions as I can recall have never had a labor Day weekend or Thanksgiving Day weekend rivalry with any other CFL team the way most do. Seems to me it was always a good date for the Lions to have a Bi week.

But I do like that this year they set up a grudge match plus it’s Touchdown Pacific, see the game thread, so all four games are rivalries in some form or another.

I hope they do this going forward.

Honestly the three teams (ALS, LEOS, RedBlacks) should rotate the Labour Day schedule in terms of getting a bye on that weekend every 3 years which they are doing with Montreal getting the bye.

The other 3 matchups can stay the same.

In that case give it to the Lions and let the 2 eastern teams go for it. That would always make the game that little bit more important.

The Lions usually gets Labour Day off for years (no actual rival)

With 8 teams they either had Ottawa (Als disappeared from 1987 to 1996) or had Montreal when Ottawa folded a couple of times.

It would make sense to have the rotation of matchups between the three teams.

It’s good to know Windsor is interested in hosting a game.

I would prefer it to be in pre-season until they build a satisfactory following. There’s a chance you want the season to start in early July and agree with me :joy: but as the season is now for me it would be late May.

I don’t want expansion. I just want a game or two (like we have in London, England with the NFL). It would be cool to have the Argos in New York.

I’d support it

They would have to play on an NFL size field.
The only way you get a CFL game in the US is to hold a training camp in April in Florida with 2 CFL teams. Open try outs and then hold a game

I hope not. No exhibition stuff.

Major League Soccer/United Soccer League fields would do the trick.

DIsney World does have property to install portable seats on their fields. I just don’t want to have a game in extreme heat in Orlando in August/September

Soccer stadiums fit an NFL field but not a CFL field with the long end zones. Goal line to goal line is 110 to 120 yards, an NFL field is 120 yards long from touchline to touchline, a CFL length is 150 yards,

How about the Grey Cup in Disney World Orlando? part of Canada Week, probably a million Canadians in Florida in November anyway. Much cheaper to fly from Toronto/Montreal to Orlando than flying out west and hotels cheaper.

Does anyone know how to mail valium to Palo? The first post was out there to be sure, but why jump all over a guy with both feet? Respectfully explain why it wouldn’t work. Field size aside, Toronto can’t draw flies to their own home park. So, a game in NY would draw only flies. And wouldn’t it be a great advertisement for the league: a cavernous stadium filled with a couple hundred fans at best…and flies!

NY isn’t considered a CFL hotbed in America. Also Paolo has spent time in that part of the world and would have some perspective on it.
