my fav play was ray holley heads up play to strip the ball on the argo,,,i was yellin at the tv " theres no whistle",,,,,kinda payback cuz it was about a year ago sinkfield's hot doggin cost us
Does anyone else see what Stala did just before the bump by Austin? The bump on Banks, and then getting up in his face? Good discipline by the players for not retaliating. Then again, had Banks retaliated, maybe the Arghos would have been without their backup kicker too.
This was a gut check game for the Tabbies. Arguably it meant more to the blew team as, if they lost it, they likely would also lose any opportunity to finish in first place (not that a team that sucks so badly was a realistic threat - other than in their own minds).
The Cats played mostly disciplined football and managed to take advantage of the opportunities that the blew team presented them with. A huge statement was made in that regard when Coates got his first career TD in the first quarter.
The blew team, on the other hand, really let their emotions get the better of them. They constantly got into penalty trouble, and because of their arguing calls with the refs, probably had a few extra calls against them that the refs might have otherwise overlooked.
It feels great to be in first place. We have to refocus now and come out stormin' against team Alberta in the next two home games.
If we play to our potential there is no reason why both games are not of the winnable variety.
It was nice to see the Argos' much-heralded receivers dropping all those passes. I don't think we've had that many drops in a game this year.
I thought Milanovich had grown a pair of steel ones when he came out in the third quarter playing three-down ball. Had no idea at the time that Swayze "Dirty Dancing" Waters was hurt. Anyone know how that happened?
I like the fact that our guys are so much smarter than theirs. That "Look - I recovered a fumble!" display was one of the dumbest football plays I've seen - and our team was smart enough to realize it. (It was hard to tell in the stadium - did the penalty on that play make it all moot?)
Trevor Harris is seriously tough. He took some very hard hits and kept going. As someone said elsewhere, Ray would have been taken away in an ambulance if he'd been in. TH has my respect.
Sinkfield just keeps getting better. This guy has so much potential. Still, not a great job of ball distribution. Tasker and Sinkfield with 8 and 7, no one else with more than two.
It would be nice to see our offence get Banks the ball in the open field where he has the chance to work his magic, instead of always near the line of scrimmage surrounded by defenders.
Of all the Ticats standing on the sidelines in street clothes (i.e. injured list), the easiest to identify from a distance is ... Hugh O'Neill.
8] I was getting annoyed at SkyDump in the first half. It seemed like they refused to show replays on the Jumbotron where Ticats did well, as a matter of principle. Thought to myself, maybe they want all the visiting team fans to stay home? But it got better in the second half.
Great job killing the clock on our last drive. I wasn't thrilled at the time to see us "wasting downs" on running plays that were going nowhere, as I really wanted a game-clinching TD. But those extra seconds that elapsed could have made the difference, as the Argos ran out of time before they ran out of downs.
As the game got tight towards the end, I found myself thinking, "we'll be alright, we've got the MOP at QB." Generally I'm a worry-wart and tend to imagine things going wrong. Haven't felt this good about the team in ages.
I'll give the Argos some credit. They said that if they made a few adjustments Collaros would no longer be able to "walk on water". They were right - he didn't walk on water, but he played well enough to beat them.
Perhaps our weakest defensive performance of the year - which is actually a good thing because they didn't play that badly and had some big plays. It just seemed like whenever Toronto put together a couple of first downs to start a drive, it was pre-ordained that they'd march in for the TD. Hopefully another learning opportunity for our team - and a less costly one than the Montreal game.
Special teams were huge for us, even without scoring a TD. The blocked punt, the big Banks return, and perfection from Money Medlock all helped cement the win.
I really like the thought of Argos going into their bye week knowing they've just been swept by us, and that fourth place is now more likely than first place.
I think it was when Speedy B lowered the boom on him during a long punt return in the second quarter (all 155 pounds of him). Geez, first he runs over (or through) Elimimian in running for a TD and then he takes out the blew team punter. I hope he doesn’t get fined by the league.
4) Trevor Harris is seriously tough. He took some very hard hits and kept going. As someone said elsewhere, Ray would have been taken away in an ambulance if he'd been in. TH has my respect.
Agreed.
5) Sinkfield just keeps getting better. This guy has so much potential. Still, not a great job of ball distribution. Tasker and Sinkfield with 8 and 7, no one else with more than two.
Sink has been on fire!!! with his story of being in and out of the line up, and sitting, and not even starting, to these last few games man, He is the definition of the hard working, blue collar underdog that I always think Tiger-Cats Football represents for the city of Hamilton. I have no end of respect for his accomplishment, and can only see him getting better.
9) Great job killing the clock on our last drive. I wasn't thrilled at the time to see us "wasting downs" on running plays that were going nowhere, as I really wanted a game-clinching TD. Amongst some recommendations for improvement for officials, During the last drive with 1:00 left the clock was mis-managed and not started at the correct time giving the argo's 4 seconds they never earned.
14) I really like the thought of Argos going into their bye week knowing they've just been swept by us, and that fourth place is now more likely than first place.
Every team sure seems to have an epidemic of “the dropsies” - last year it was Ottawa. But It sure seems like ALL our guys have been sure-handed this year, hasn’t it?
As LB74 said, Speedy ran him over, and that was the last time he saw the football field.
This reminds me of a Chicago Bear last year who, after a sack, jumped and, upon landing, tore his ACL.
Yup.
Sinkfield has mad a VERY strong case for himself to stay on the starting lineup. That means, when Bakari comes back, that Austen will have to make a hard decision on whom to sit (my money is on Underwood). When Fantuz is cleared, Coates will return to being a backup.
Me too. Unless the thinking is to get him the football behind some blockers so he can get through a hole and THEN make people miss, a la Archie Amerson back in the day. The downside is that he may get too banged up to do what he does best - return kicks.
“It’s The Beard, isn’t it…”
Would you expect anything less?
Yeah, running that much time off the clock was crucial.
Isn’t it a nice feeling to have? In years past, especially the Kevin Glenn era, I had absolutely NO confidence in his ability to finish off a game and, more often than not, he outright LOST those games for us.
I really think that this was a good “character” game for us. We won a good, hard-fought game by fewer than 10 points. The blew team played angry, but we played with confidence. The confident team won.
We were also playing with a couple of starters missing in our secondary, allowing Harris to victimize our backups a bit. You have to give them credit - they played a very good game, but the Tiger-Cats were better…
Coach Reinebold has worked wonders these past two seasons, eh?
