The game started just like almost every other game this season - not very good.
My thoughts:
Good coverage on the opening kickoff.
Dropped the LBs back on 2nd-and-long, MBT picks us apart with this. SMDH
Kenny G continues to show his uselessness.
Bad INT on our opening drive.
Then we block another punt, and then score a TD to a TW for the first time.
Bo had some overthrows, and Suits mentioned that Bridges slowed down on a routw that would have been a sure TD.
Then the taps opened, and we started scoring TDs. A slow-moving slant by Luther ended p being a 66-yd TD.
White had a great TD -just- staying inbounds.
Bo finally connects with Smith for a bomb TD.
White wide open in the EZ for his second TD - I honestly thought we were plaing against OUR Defence.
Things were looking good, and then EDM put in Ford. All of a sudden, we forgot how to pay Defence or reverted to form. Washington goes pure “prevent” - and Ford throws 3 TDs in 10 minutes. This was extremely maddening, as Washington seems to have no clue about stepping on the opposition’s throat and beating them into the turf.
We are now tied with WPG in terms of points. We really needed this win to keep pace with the rest of the East. The Defence simply HAS to play better and lay the lumber to close out games.
Garbage time is garbage time. If we get up 41-8 and give up 20 easy points in the last half a quarter again next week I will be the over the moon delighted.
We dont beat Back up QB’s very often unfortunately. I do hold those point against Washington. It happens all the time doesn’t matter the score. We always give up easy TD’s late and it has to stop
Bo was 11-12 for 200 yards and 3 touchdowns in the second half!!
Who cares about the garbage time points.
BC beat us 44-28 three weeks ago in a game that we scored a couple of touchdowns in garbage time and I didn’t go home happy that night.
Let’s enjoy this and get ready for Montreal.
When the game mattered all three phases were clicking.
Great balanced attack spreading the ball out to everyone with Butler running like a beast.
Special teams has gone from a liability to a strength. Kudos to coach McKnight.
In spite of the late points in garbage time the defense played with speed and tenacity with lots of pressure on the QB. MBT was awful because the d forced it.
I have no concerns over the Tre Ford love fest. He didn’t play against a stand up defense. It was long over by that point.
Our Defence gave up 3 points on the opening drive and then absolutely nothing more until Bo and the offense had put up 5 TDs and we led 41-8. The other 5 points against were 3 off an INT and two long punt singles.
Things are different when it’s 41-8.
We won by 16 and the game was never in doubt in the 4th quarter.
Do points against not matter at all in the event of a standings tie say at the end of the year??
I really don’t know how it works but it seems like if it does factor in then it’s not wise giving up any free “garbage” points if we’re trying to get back into this year.
