kickoff on riders game???

This is question makes me feel stupid, but I was confused watching the riders game. Didn't B.C kick off to start both the game and the second half??? I taped it, watched it twice, and saw that both times. Can someone explain this to me?

Dont feel stupid you are not the only one who was wondering why that happened. Iam trying to find an answer myself.

....from the CFL rulebook:

At the start of the game, the captains of both teams shall meet the Referee at centre field. The Referee shall toss a coin with the visiting team captain making the call. The captain of the team winning the coin toss shall declare whether to have first choice at the start of the first or second half.

The captain of the team having first choice at the start of the first half shall choose between:
a) kicking off or receiving the kickoff, or
b) which end of the field to defend.

The captain of the other team shall have first choice at the start of the second half, when both captains shall meet the Referee at centre field to declare their choices.

...so it is possible to either kick off at both the first and second half, or receive, and at the same end, or not.....there are lots of combinations...

I assume it was due to wind conditions when the Lions got to choose kick and take a specific end of the field.

This is nothing new. Sometimes teams decide they want the wind in a certain quarter.

Thanks for the rule book quote R&W.

yea thats R+W
