Kick to win

if they're going to get someone to kick in this contest. at least get someone who has a shot at 50yds!

bringing in someone who can't get close to the 50yds totally defeats the purpose!!

this guy was just not capable.. and you could tell! if he had at least make the 20yd and 30yd kicks, then you think "this guy could do it!" but the fact he wasn't making any of them, you didn't have to wonder... you knew right away he woudn't.

I think their semi-final rules are stupid. and I think they need to make it a national tourny..

get people from all over Canada, to come out and kick. then you take the top 10 from each city and have them compete.. then the guys who can make the most field goals from 35 yds out of so many tries, make it to the quarters.. and then you have the top 5 from regions compete.. then you have the semi finals where the top 4 from the entire country compete to see who makes it to the final! as the only kicker.

picking people from a random draw is the worst way to do it.. because you are likely to get people who have no athleticism at all, and will never win the million or the 100,000.

LOL… .that’s the whole idea of the contest… WHY would Wendy’s want someone who CAN hit from 50 yards… they want the drama of WILL he… you miss alot in life don’t you!

I would guess that Wendy’s doesnt want to give away a million dollars every year, that is why the contest is open to everyone…

Not only is it harder to kick in front of 25000 people and on live national television, but kicking a 20 yard field goal for $10,000 would probably make most cfl kickers nervous cause they probably average a lot less per kick as their salary.

what’s that supposed to mean?

I’m saying that they need to have someone who at least has a shot. this guy never had a chance… i’m pretty sure everyone watching on TV and at the Stadium knew he wouldn’t get it.

Now that would be taking the Battle of Alberta a little far.

edmonton always thinks calgary cheats  lol but the cflisbest guy or whatever is super dumb LOL. your right a random contest for a prize should only let athletic people sign up for the contest...i was talking to me brother about how i can hit it from 40 almost every time and i should go win 100 000 but a) i have to be drawn and b) its different with that audience. thats the point of the contest...next you will want the lottery to only sell tickets to people who are already millionaires LOL award for the worst comment ive heard this year...  you earned it!

The straight-ahead kicking style was the first problem. If you hit the ball just an eighth of an inch off the centre of your foot, the ball goes pretty much wherever it wants to. He should have gotten Dave Cutler to help him out. He used to do that thirty years ago, but it looked funny even back then.

I wouldn't be able to do it, maybe not even from 20, so I don't ridicule him for it. Put the league's best kicker on the fifty yard line, in front of a stadium full of people, TV cameras, people lined up down the hash marks, and frigging Dave Randorf chattering away, and tell him he's kicking for a million dollars; I'll bet he'd only make it three times out of ten, tops.

The draw to select competitors is fine, but the WAY you enter really slants things Wendy's way. Super-size your meal to enter the draw. That increases the likelihood that the person who's selected is a little out of shape. He looked reasonably fit, but the odds were still greater that it would be someone that looked like me than someone that looked like Nick Setta.

I thought they all talked excessively… and they kept telling the crowd to make noise. I’m sure that help the guy out a lot!

I pretty much agree with this post completely. I am quite amazed he made it into the final with his kicking style as “toeing” the ball relies on a perfect kick to keep it remotely straight. I am a bit disappointed I was really rooting for the other guy, the guy that made a 50 yarder in the semi final and still lost.

I don’t know how I would do personally, I’ve kicked in both football and soccer, but not at high levels. I could probably make the 20 and 30 yarders, probably have the leg strength for the 40 but it would be luck if I made the 40 or 50. Add in some nervousness and I don’t know how well I’d do. The guy got 30k so it wasn’t all for naught. I’m not going to post a scathing review as the guy last year came on these boards and tore me a new one

when the CFL kickers used to toe punch the ball, they had special shoes that were straight across the front. Then they used to tie them up wierd. Even with that advantage, that style soon gave way to the more soccer style. Trying to do it with any kind of round toe makes any distance iffy.

no problem with those that are selected to compete being selected by draw, but you would think some one better would have won the competition to be the one to kick for the million.

But hey, when I was in army basic training and they had us line up to kick 10 yards chip shot. They had us in two lines and the idea was that whenever one made it, the other line had to do pushups. I kid you not, out of about 30 or so of us, I was the ONLY one to make the kick. I couldnt beleive it as I watched miss after miss. Then the master corporal decides to kick one for the other line just to make us have to do pushups as well.

You can say the guy "lost" something cause he didn't make a kick but really he walked away with $30,000 and a trip to a CFL game(too bad it was in T.O.) so really he was a winner. more of a winner than anyone who didn't even get to try a kick was. i don't know about the rest of you but $30,000 would be very nice right about now.

i'd like to think i would hit the 20 yarder but after that it would be a hope and a prayer. pressure gets to the best, good thing it wasn't in a sold out Mosaic Stadium, woulda been a louder and more pressure. i wasn't too surprised that they jacked up the crowd when he kicked, i thought it was a dirty thing to do so that it would make him more nervous. i was surprised how loud the argo fans were.

hopefully they do it again next year and i get to compete with all of you some more. i should work on my "online" kicking so i get more chances to win.

yep good on the guy I didn't get picked and entered daily on the kick game but only 1 can go to the show and I can't imagine the pressure I guy would be under WOW he probly doesn't even remember the whole ordeal
yes it would be unreal to walk away with all those prizes and be an instant millionaire but 30gees a couple trips and free naters for a year isn't a bad deal either

I would have Filed down my Steel Toe Work boots to a nice Square edge . Marched onto the Field with them on , when Randorf kept Screaming i would have kicked him right in the Shin.

Geez that guy had to kick that ball on a foreign field in a stadium filled with 1000s of people and in front of many more on TV. It's not really surprising that he missed is it?
