Kent Austin Caned

With Toronto Comming to ISW

The Argos Fire OC Kent Austin

He and the rest of the team are paying the price for managment not bothering to go out and getting a bonified replacement for Allen. Its come back to bite them in the arse

Is this for real

It's for real; just announced on the CBC broadcast. Austin appears to be the fall guy because of Allen's injury,no running game and Ricky Williams failure to perform. Austin will be back in the CFL. Do you guys think he would be the right fit for Head Coach for the Cats

no.

not sure he deserved to be fired, but I dont see him as head coach, at least not yet. I dont think he is ticat material.

no I think we need experience.Austin was a great quarterback, but head coach;;;;Idont know.I dont think we can take another risk or the fans will stop supporting this team.We all no how hard fans are on our teams,I wouldnt take the risk.I could be wrong though, who knows he might be a great headcoach.

A thought occurred to me. Could Greg Marshall be Austin's replacement?

In the next 5 weeks we play the blue team 3 times. It could be the right move for them and a scary one for us.

This guy was a rising star for being a head coach in the CFL. Hes proved himself as an OC in past years. I think the Boatmen threw the wrong man overboard. :?

I seriously doubt it.

Chances are they will be sticking to the playbook they have, working some changes into it with his replacement(s) as time goes on. Any word whether Clemons will be calling the plays or someone else on their staff? Is there an immediate replacement?

Oski Wee Wee,

As far Austin being a head coach, he wouldn't be my first choice. I prefer a head coach with a defensive background, but that's just me. LOL

Oski Wee Wee,

No. Special teams maybe 8) .

WOW!

Kent Austin was a great QB with the Riders, as Hamilton found to their cost in 1989.

Working with the Double Blue Team quickly morph's you into somebody who can play funny games with a team budget (like how can you reconcile the Argo payroll versus the League's unenforced "Rules"?)

Such being said, he'd be a candidate (and a great one!) for OC immediately, given Ronnie turns the Head Coach job over to Joe Paopao (at the end of the season).

Whether he could develop to a Head Coach is something I don't know...But he did win a Grey Cup ring as a player, a QB at that, and a definitive "Team Leader"...

I'd say he's a good "Prospect" for us...

I'm no Austin lover, but I still think caning is an unnecessarily harsh punishment. This isn't Singapore.

O'Shea, on the other hand ... I'd pay to see that.

lmao!

I was sooooooooooooooo biting my tongue and actually “googled” Singapore/Caning for some images…but they were not pretty so I chose not to go there…

smmmmmmmack!

Geez, TO is a tough town.
Kent Austin gets canned AND caned all in the same day!

Seriously though, how do you come to the conclusion that the Argo's struggles are Austin's fault?

Management saddled him with a has-been and a bunch of never-will-be's at QB... sign a couple of high-priced NFL duds at RB... and instead of improving the team's age or Canadian content, sign another return specialist in Keith Stokes (because Levingston and Bruce aren't enough apparently).

Of course, all the key injuries are his fault as well.

After the dust settles, the Argos have improved today... how?

As an Argo fan, I'd love to see Austin take over as HC of the Cats. Seriously though, the man just can't get away from the pass even when he has some great running backs (Williams, Avery and Johnson). A HC has to be willing to use the tools at his disposal to the best of their abilities. He never did that in TO. For example, not once did he devise any special plays to take advantage of the fact that he had a bonafide NFL star RB on his team. The guy's too inflexible to be a good HC. With the talent the Argos have on offence, they should be kicking ass every week. Instead, they turn in these lacklustre performances week after dismal week. Also, a HC needs a stronger background in defence than Austin brings.

Look elsewhere for your next HC.

An Argo fan

The interesting thing is that Austin was credited with being the coach who was finally able to elevate Damon's game to the point where he was the best QB in the league. Instead of being in the top 3 or 4 like he was the rest of his career.

Hard to imagine Damon becoming any more effective as a result of Austin departing. (Assuming the old man's brittle bones can even withstand the rigors of the game.)

Kent Austin gets the can for Adam Ritas poor free agent signing decisions.

Who signed all the individuals on the Argos offence? TEAM and individuals don’t go together Adam.

Who failed to upgrade the Canadian content of the Argos?

Who signed Ricky Williams and snubbed Avery
“we love you and want you to stay in our family”

Who has made the mess? Adam Rita and Pinball.

The offensive line of the Argos has been a weak spot over the last few years. Damon Allen has the elusiveness (even at 43) to make up for a lot of shortcomings, Their pass blocking is average at best. The run blocking is poor, especially recently. Jeff Johnson is a solid, elusive back who consistently makes that line look good.

I think the Argos are in real trouble offensively not because of Kent Austin, although his pass-happy playcalling is not my cup of tea.

I wonder who will be doing the playcalling now? Damon?

Oski Wee Wee,
