Desjardins Fired!

Tiger-Cat GM Marcel Desjardins has been fired.

Club president Scott Mitchell confirmed
the firing to me Sunday afternoon.

Mitchell said he hopes to have a new GM
hired by the end of the month.

It will be up to the new GM to decide on
the fate of Ticat head coach Charlie Taaffe,

his assistants and the rest
of the football personnel.

Scott has to open this job up to applicants

but only one man has a first-hand knowledge
of the players, coaches and personnel people.

Mike Mc Carthy provides continuity in the
personnel/management end of the operation.

He knows the players from observing
them at practices every week,

and if he keeps Charlie, as I suspect he would,

Mike could help Charlie with finding a new D.C.

To have some continuity for the players,

they could decide which assistants to keep
and which new assistants to hire.

That would be a much better situation
than bringing in a G.M. from outside

who would very likely want to have
his own co-ordinators and assistants.

P.S.

Charlie has been in control of the Offence,
calling the plays, for the last 8-10 games
of the season if not more.

He designed the Offence and brought in
Mike Working because of his famiarity
either with Charlie himself or the Offence.

Front page Headlines today's Spectator:

"Ticats fire GM Desjardins"

Well if Working doesn't call the plays, then it would be a real shame to fire him for the poor play of the offence and those late season substitution infractions. Who made the call to change that situation eight games in to the schedule, because I remember a thread titled, "we had something, and lost it." Was that the sound of us starting over in a different direction midseason with a resounding thud?

I do know he coaches the running backs, which have played pretty well, eh? Hopefully that call to change signal callers was a directive from Marcel that has now been corrected. If it came from elsewhere (management), this staff will never get it rolling because this team is actually being coached by people who are not on the field.

There Still Some Answersed Questions.
who will new New GM Be?
Will Charlie Keep his Job?
If He dose Keep his job Who are Asst Coaches be next year?

allezmew, it was Charlie’s Offence.

He worked with the Offence every day in practice.

and he took the reins from Mike on game days
sometime after the mid-point of the season.

Mike’s play calls went through Charlie’s headset
before a play was relayed out to the field

Ultimately, Charlie was responsible
for the Offence from that point on.

According to Scott Radley, a Spectator reporter,

If Charlie stays as Head Coach,

Working might stay with the
Offence in a new capacity, and

Ed O’Neil could be back in a
different role on Defence.

I just heard this confirmed
by Scott Mitchell on CHML.

These guys are 30+ year career coaches
and they know how to teach fundamentals.

P.S.

Charlie made decisions on
which QB to start not Marcel.
