Keith Pelley to be Announced as new MLSE President

Hard to know where to put this as Pelley will now be in charge of the Raptors and Leafs as well as the Argonauts. He is known to be innovative and has quite the resume, most recently being the commissioner of the European Golf Tour and helping to negotiate the deal with LIV Golf last year. I am hoping that his reputation for innovation will help the Argonauts at the box office and that he puts significant effort into raising their profile. He also is a past president of the Argonauts so is familiar with the CFL.

His impressive resume includes being the head of Rogers and being responsible for negotiating the current NHL TV deal, although that is said to be a money loser for Rogers. He also reportedly has significant money connections including to Saudi money. Anyone who hasn’t been asleep the last few years knows that Saudi money is already a force in sports such as golf, tennis, Formula One and the CFL and the Saudis are likely to become even more involved in sports in the future so it’s probably a good thing to have someone who has experience dealing with them at the helm.

Pelley also had major involvement with marketing the Vancouver Olympics, which were a major television success and resulted in the most watched show in Canadian television history to that point. He is also apparently media savvy and friendly.

I can’t say that I have followed him personally although I am aware of him from his golf exploits, but he sure sounds interesting. Many more details in the article below.

I remember when Pelley was running the Argos is was common to see him out around mingling with the crowd before the games. He was a go getter but couldn’t get the attendance up to 30,000 back then. Crowds were announced on an average of 27,000 back then if my memory is correct at the Dome. Some people say things were papered and maybe they were as I can remember cheerleaders walking around before the games handing out tickets. Those crowds look pretty good compared to now. I look forward to see what he can do for the Argos.
