Jyles Trade Rumour includes mention of TCs

Somewhat surprised no one has yet to latch onto this one for discussion. From Drew Edwards Feb. 19/11 blog:

includes mention of possibility of moving either Porter or Trafalis. Link to Ed Tait's Winnipeg Free press article:

Ed Tait's apparently a respected writer so for him to write this.....

Where there's smoke there's fire? Things that you make go hmmm...

I'm not surprised we're interested, given what our QB situation looks like behind Glenn right now.

But i doubt we'll get Jyles, they'll want NI's and thats something we can't afford to give up right now.

Jyles? I would trade Porter and Cobb.. Everyone like a two fr. one deall..

Well if there's anything to this rumour, I don't see that trade going down.

The rumour is based on Winnipeg moving Jyles out and signing Jarious Jackson. . . if that transpires no way would they want Porter.

And, since they've got Fred Reid, what would they want with Cobb?

Reid has lost a step so they might be interested in Cobb. Porter? frankly I don't think anyone wants him..

Trade doesnt necessitate Porter going to WPG. Sounds like Porter is gone regardless.

No, it sure doesn’t necessitate Porter going the other way, I was just responding to drmopar’s suggested trade.

Yes, it sure is starting to look like Porter’s days as a Cat may be ending sooner rather than later.

I find it hard to believe that the Ticats would give up on Porter now. I thought he played decently last year, especially when he relieved Glenn temporarily in the playoffs. I think if any trade discussions took place between Hamilton and Winnipeg for Jyles, it was because Obie wanted to try to move Cobb without having to cut him for nothing.

That said, I think Tarfalis might be traded as part of a package, because I think the Ticats were probably paying him too much for a 3rd stringer, and he probably wants a chance to challenge for #1 somewhere else, where he has a better shot.

PORTER DID? REALLY?!

Would look good behind Kevin Glenn and 28 yrs. old too.

"All this speculation would surprise some, given that the 28-year-old veteran led the Bombers in passing last year by completing 61.6 per cent of his attempts for 2,804 yards with 19 touchdowns against seven interceptions. His 100.9 QB-efficiency rating was third best in the CFL, behind only Anthony Calvillo and Henry Burris."

LOL, I was kind of scratching my head over that one too . . .

If we follow, OB's mantra "better is better", wouldn't we see a marked improvement in the QB role with Jyles present? ie someone who would be at the very least a solid No.2 and perhaps someone who could really push Kevin Glenn.

If TC management sees it that way then all they would have to do is come up with a package to send back to the BB's; one that they would take and one that we would be willing to part with. Its a big "if" but it is what the GM gets paid to do and it is something that OB is more than capable of pulling off

OK, but if I’m Jyles, I’m thinkin’ I could start for possibly 3 teams in this league (WPG, TOR, BC) so why sign to be a #2 for MUCH less money with anyone?!

Paul Stanley - those could very well be Jyles' thoughts however he wouldn't have a say since this would be a trade. I'm just following the rumour which only mentions Hamilton and Edmonton as possible suitors to the trade.

The way Lulay played down the stretch and in the playoffs, no way the lions dump him for Jyles.

Jyles is under contract to the Bummers and if traded to anyone he would have to go and honour his contract.
Jyles does not get a say in the matter
Jyles contract is 100k/yr. not sure of term or bonus
Signed with bummers as a free agent this time last year.

Jyles would be a great pick up if this is true.

Yep. One QB behind Glenn is very inexperienced and another seems to get worse as he gains more experience, and the other is Boltus.

When I saw Glenn get injured in the EDSF game, I knew we were in some serious trouble. I wouldn’t have been as worried if we have a backup as good as Jyles.

It is interesting to hear that it’s believed that WPG wants Jarious Jackson to back up Pierce, as was the case in BC: http://cfl.ca/article/bids-heat-up-for- … qb-jackson

8) Jyles is also coming off shoulder surgery to repair a dislocated shoulder that ended his season last Oct.
According to Wpg. GM Joe Mack, Jyles may not even be able to throw a football till Mar. or April !!

Why in the world would Winnipeg want 2 QB’s who are damaged goods in Pierce and Jackson?
