Justin McGriff gone for the season

Actually…the answer is at least 1…haha!!

Stories of MLB players getting hurt in dumb off field accidents are legion.

Like Trevor Bauer and his drone!!

Who knows, but he could have become the next Prechae Rodriguez.

Well there was this guy named Jake Burt but he was a 1rst over-all pick so I’m not sure if he counts or not as a complete unknown.

Lived on his own planet. Even easy going Taaffe couldnt deal with him. Patient teacher-type Bellefeuille couldnt do anything with him either . Shipped to SSK for Adam Nicolson. Rider fans said we got fleeced. Refused to be coached there too. Then EDM and TOR. 4 teams and out of the league in 4 years.

I dont think even Burt’s biggest fans claimed the roster was suffering having him out. McGriff gets hurt and we’re talking about filling in holes and “next man up” stuff. Sheesh.

Well in the case of Burt it’s not everyday that you get the chance to draft number 1 and get a crack at a guy who plays the all important fullback position .

I think the disappointing thing is that we finally had a tall, physical WR prospect who -looked- to have some coachable skills on top of his physical ones. A breath of fresh air after so many seasons with pint-sized receivers…

We’ll be fine.

Big guys:
Omar Bayless 6’1" 210
Richie Sindani 6’2" 220
Kiondre Smith 6’2" 190
Chris Osei-Kusi 6’2" 200
Duke 6’3" 225

Speed guys:
Tim White
Terry Godwin
Lio’undre Gallimore

Plus others on the bubble.

Should be fun to watch them tonight. I hope there will be a lot of the passing game.

I guess it depends on how long Johnson is out for. If he’s back after 6 games, not much difference compared to waiting on Addison.

I think we’ll be ok at receiver with either Bayless or Godwin.

I remember a few years ago a player I think Norwood was his name and he looked good in preseason, but was hurt in an off-field injury that turned out to be a cooking injury a burn or something like that.

As DCF posted below, the anticipation for a tall receiver of McGriff’s stature is well documented and he likely would have made it as a starter. Good teams have depth and as Smogmonster pointed out also below, the Cats still have a decent number of tall receivers in camp that can slot right in.

He was supposed to replace Addison so yes he would’ve been a starter and probably the go to guy. There are some players to fill the void, but I don’t think any are as good. We will soon see.

Omar Bayless has quite an impressive Highlights video so anxious to see if he can continue that at the Pro level.

Who said that ? They “hype” around McGriff started with an unusually tall rec in camp. He caught passes and dropped passes. In one preseason game an ugly drop , some catches, and got unmuscled on an INT. Thats it.
Potential, maybe, sure but one shouldnt act a key weapon got ripped out of the heart of the offense. Lets keep some perspective here.

McGriff was being used in what, last year, was Dunbar’s spot – wide out on the boundary side. Tonight, Bayless starts, ahead of Jon’Vea Johnson, out there.

Hard no.

McGriff was that good. He had very real defined talent that we were starvng for. Much more than just an offseason question mark.

Well said bobo! They do have depth and more guys still vying for a spot. Unfortunately not another 6’6" receiver but ones who are tall enough. It’s unfortunate both for MGriff who showed potential, and the team but there will be a replacement found. The fortunate thing is that there’s still a preseason game to go to sort out who would be a likely replacement.
