Justin Buren retires

I believe the firefighter you refer to was Sandy Beveridge, but he played several years first. About 8-10 IIRC.

The trend I’m talking about is more with young players retiring at the beginning of their career.

The odd part about Buren is that he went from zero to starter within his first season, and had a chance to become the featured Cdn receiver depending on how FA turns out. Seemed to have a bright future in the game.

There was also a highly rated OL draft pick a couple years back that retired before he ever took a professional snap. Because he made a lot more running his parent’s farm.

You are good ! You are very good ! Sandy Beveridge was a Cat from 2003 to 2010 . Eight years is a solid career and then he chose a noble calling as a firefighter .

Or the family and farm needed him. Was he quoted as saying it was about the money?

Yes. He mentioned the money was better farming. And it’s true… most farmers I know do quite well.

Be very careful saying that around farmers!

My cousin has a small dairy farm. Maybe 25 cattle. And makes around 200K per year.

Quotas make milk farming a beautiful thing. Plus I believe he can sell his quota for a substantial amount.
Don’t get me wrong, i know it’s a tough way to make a living and the hours are long and year round.
I had a college friend who worked dairy farms in the summer. Loved the life, hated the hours.

Wait till he sells, especially if he has land. Quota on 25 head, plus acreage and buildings, will make 200K seem like chump change.

And now, back to Buren.

Right. Has anyone read, or heard, anything from any media, or other source, on Buren being registered, with the league, as retired? Two days later, the club has said nothing and he’s still listed on the roster here.

good point…could even be a tactic to renegotiate his contract

Maybe he decided that playing football is just too dangerous.

pretty sure Andrew Grigg was another one that left early in what could have been a long career… law school i think?

I thought about him, but he played 8 years first like Beveridge. Grigg played from 1995 - 2002. So at least players like these two guys played 8 years first. Not 0-1 then retire.

I was hoping there was some roster trick involved with the word that Justin had retired, particularly when the club said nothing and his name remained on the ticats.ca roster for a couple weeks after. But, today – free agency day – I see that the 19 free agents’s names have been removed from the roster and Buren’s name is also now gone.

Marshall Ferguson is apparently unaware Buren retired. On TSN 1150 radio today, Ferguson talked multiple times about how Buren would be Hamilton’s only decent national receiver if Mike Jones signs elsewhere.

Mystery.

Right up there with What happened to coach Ptasak, what exactly does Jim Barker do for the Cats, and why did coach Condell bail on the team and still get invited back?

8)Not law school. Andrew went into the coffee business !!

He has at least 2 or 3 Tim Horton`s franchises now.
