Josh Betts and Erik Meyer released

So much for the glut at QB....

I simply do not understand why they would sign 2 QB's and then cut them before camp. Its almost like Obie was messing with them.

Pro sports is a business. Sometimes business decisions aren't nice. However, cutting them now gives them the chance to sign on with another club and have a full camp to compete for a spot. Maybe that is the nice thing to do afterall?

Just like all the teams fighting over who is going to sign Printers and Williams.

When you sign players, it’s with the hope that these players will make your team better, you sign them as they become available. If you feel better players come along, then you sign them to replace players. I have no problem with them signing Betts and Meyer and when they feel better talent comes available then they release the players they don’t think will fit in.

I would rather have 10 qb’s signed and 6 released knowing we are going in to camp with 4 of what we feel are the best players for the team vs. signing the first 4 guys we find and not signing others becasue we already have the spots filled…that’s the kind of backward thinking that will keet this team in last place.

Glovesave:

Exactly.
The team wants competition at all positions.
Nothing wrong with signing potential QB's who are available and letting them go if better prospects appear. The unfair thing would be if Meyer and Betts were kept on until training camp along with the newer signings.
I think the QB "glut" situation has been handled well for all concerned. Good luck to Meyer and Betts.

I just realized that the Cats did actually have a good chance to evaluate these 2 guys.

They were both throwing passes for all 3 US free agent camps. The Cat coaches must have thought the 2 newer signings were better.

You can bring 75 guys to camp. Too many QBs doesn't give you a good enough look at other people who you could bring in to compete.

Let's face it, they were either going to be 3rd stinger's or on the PR. I think Tafralis showed enough last year to be the 3rd stringer.

You have to be fair to these guys. If you are bringing them to camp just to cut them, then don't waste anyone's time. Now they are able to try and get into someone elses training camp. These guys have a lot of options.

It would have been interesting to see Josh Betts, Erik Meyer, Josh Boltus and Chase Clement come to rookie camp and let the best two move on to the the veteran camp. However, given that Quinton Porter, Kevin Glenn and Adam Tafralis seem to be pencilled in as the number one, two and three quarterbacks respectively coming into training camp, perhaps the Ticats are looking at Boltus and Clement, who are both rookies, to compete for a practice roster spot while releasing Betts and Meyer, who are both veterans by comparison, to seek better opportunities elsewhere.

I guess Boltus was damn impressive. He is signed and immediately triggers the release of two QB's. I don't have any feeling about the two guys that were released, but I am intrigued with Boltus now.

As I said in Other Thread … I spoke Danny Mac at Burlington Boston Pizza Party.
He told me Boltus should have Strongest arm in Camp
He told told Boltus is very Mobile for guy his size.
Really look forward to seeing so I am all 4 Sessions of Rookie camp for the Two days.
