For those of you that have children or other family members between the ages of 8 and 11 and would like them to play football, the Hamilton Minor Football Association (HMFA) Tyke Eskimos are looking for players to fill out the roster for the 2007 season.
The league has designated teams depending on the address of the child, and if you would like to play for the Eskimos you must reside in the lower city West of Ottawa Street. Exceptions may be made if teams in other areas have full rosters, in which case the boundary rules are not enforced.
The league has three age groups and weight maximums for the Atom level player to meet (child must be at or below the weight maximum by September 9, 2007):
10 as of September 1st - Weight Max-115 lbs
11 as of December 31st - Weight Max-90 lbs
8 as of September 1st - Weight Max-125 lbs
Practices begin in June and games start in September and run until the end of October. The earlier the decision to join the better, as once 34 roster spots are filled there will be no further registrations accepted.
Some benefits to joining the HMFA are:
Experienced Coaching Staffs
Full Equipment included
Tiger-Cats Timbit Camp (practice with the big boys at Ivor Wynne)
Practice visits by Hamilton Tiger-Cat players
Teach football skills as well as Life skills
Minimum of 9 Games (up to 2 possibly at Ivor Wynne Stadium)
The cost to join is $250 and both the parent/guardian and the child must be present when registering, and must also bring along a copy of the child’s Birth Certificate.
