They used his money to pay for Ray’s contract, they lost their best player to the NFL so he had to rebuild his defense this year. If McCune had not gotten hurt this game could have gone differently. Refusing to run the ball also played right in the hands of the Ticats by giving them a huge clock to mount their comeback. Was almost like watching the 2010, 2011 Alouettes blowing leads and not able to put teams away.
Regarding Chris Jones, I am in total agreement with you,MadJack. Jones is definitely too emotional on the sidelines. I definitely don’t foresee him as a Head Coach… In 2013, the Argos defence were last in yards given;yesterday, they gave 484 yards to the Tiger-Cats.
If Hufnagel,Dickenson, Milanovich and Marcus Brady are so great what happened yesterday? Toronto offence was on the field for 20:09 minutes and Calgary for 19:18.
Even the best coaches lose once in a while and in single elimination playoffs anything can happen. The difference is you win a lot more often if you have an actual coach coaching the team as opposed to a GM with a coaching record to rival bart andrus. There’s going to be several teams looking for coaches this year and we should be in on that because we currently have an overworked GM as the coach. What’s going to be really annoying is that we are likely going to lose Thorpe, one of our only good coaches this year, to one of the head coaching positions while we keep Popp as the head coach because he thought Thorpe wasn’t ready.
Unfortunately le_staff what you just described is a very real scenario that could unfold. If Popp leaves I could easily see Wettenhall pulling the plug as the two have a very close relationship and who knows if he'd trust anyone else to run the team and spend his money. Right now he only makes money if the team is successful so hiring the wrong guy as a potential GM once Popp leaves/retires would be disastrous for the team and would set them back a lot farther than if a team that is a bigger part of their city hires a bad gm.
Keeping our offensive staff in place would be a disaster. I dont recall ever seeing such an ineffective offense from the als and that falls directly on the staff hired to replace Trestman's coaches and in a 9 team league theres no way a team coached by these guys makes the playoffs
The Als are Mr. Wetenhaul’s retirement baby. Some like muscle cars, some like the casino… Mr. Wetenhaul likes football and boxing. I’m not overly concerned that he want’s to sell his team. He said he wants to pass it on to his sons.
If he’s secure in his position and Jim says “I can bring Duron Carter along”… I could also see Jim take a job as a DPP in the NFL if Mrs. Popp says she’s not raising five kids by herself seven months a year.
Thing is Popp has never been in favor of limiting the professional growth of his staff. Every time an als assistant coach has been offered a promotion he has allowed them to walk for more money and a higher up job. Trestman had a long contract signed with the als when he left to go to the NFL and you can take it to the bank that Popp would’ve rathered have Trestman as coach than go searching for someone new
The Montreal Alouettes are beginning their off-season moves.
According to a report from RDS, the Alouettes have dismissed offensive coaches Mike Miller and Doug Berry.
Miller was Montreal's assistant head coach, offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks coach while Berry's title was senior advisor to the head coach.
Miller and Berry were each in their first year with the Alouettes. Miller came from the Arizona Cardinals of the NFL where he served as offensive coordinator and Berry was brought in to advise now-fired head coach Dan Hawkins.
One of GM Jim Popp's first moves after taking over as interim head coach was to give Berry offensive play calling duties.
The Alouettes finished the regular season with an 8-10 record and fell to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Eastern Semi-Final.
