I agree this guy has been a goat far too much . He had 2 or 3 penalties last night and was burned a few times as well .
He is playing the short side half back that they say is a tough position but I think you give him one more game on labor day because he is an ex argo and he has performed well in the past . If he gets burned again I think you give Heward a shot.
I still think we got burned on the Thompson for Mann trade and that leaves us with the weakest defensive backfield in the CFL . Thompsn leads the CFL in interceptions ansd will likely be a a CFL all-star this year .
I actually think Shivers is getting better every game. A DB like him who covers the other team's best receiver every game is bound to get beat badly once or twice every game. Shivers' special teams tackle yesterday basically won us the game. Give him some props.
Shivers had his best game of the season on Friday, lets see what he does over the next couple weeks.
You're not going to get rid of a guy that just played his best game. He is also the only member of our secondary with an interception.
The fact that was his best game is sad. He gotta have way better games than that one, he was beaten a bunch and had a few pass interference penalties too.
He caused a critical turnover and big timely plays often do cover a multitude of sins. On one Argo pass to the endzone he didn't get flagged for obstruction this time because he had remembered to turn his head before flailing his arms in the air to try and break up the pass. He has very close coverage and you can see the ref's had the flag ready if he didn't turn his head that split second before trying to break it up. All you can say is that he is showing improvement (encouraging sign), and we won the game. Let's get off him for awhile and move onto other grievances and criticisms, shall we? At least for the time being.
Strong side halfback and Weak side halfback are two different positions. Weak side corner and halfback are much tougher than the strong side. With that said, i do like Dennis, and i don’t like Shivers.
Shivers has been embarrassed in some games, which shouldn’t be happening. Dennis, is actually becoming a solid starter.
The point is there’s a lot of people in this league, on our team and in the past that have played that position and they never get talked about as much as Shivers. There’s no way Shivers should be cut a break cause “it’s a hard position ”

It takes years to master it ..
You play the best Pass Catchers in the league every Week.
Cut the guy a Break</blockquote>
Jerome Dennis plays the same position and i haven't seen anyone complain about him.</blockquote>

If Remember Tisdale play that very spot last year and and Issuies.
I’m not sure if your saying he had or didn’t have issues but he did not have issues like Shivers has. He was good enough last year to get an NFL tryout. He had a pretty good year last year from what I remember.
Actually, I’m not so sure about Tisdale last year. I seem to remember him getting burned a number of times going for the interception, and putting himself completely out of position to make the stop. I’m not seeing that this year, so either he’s learned when to go for the INT, or the different position isn’t allowing it. Or maybe he’s only doing it when he knows someone (Shivers?) has his back?
As for Shivers, I thought he played a pretty good game Friday. He got burned deep once, but the rest of his game was solid. Even the “waving his hands in front of the receiver’s face” play that someone else mentioned on this(?) thread. On that one, he was right with the receiver, turned and looked at the ball, and then prevented the catch. Isn’t that his job?
I think I'm beginning to see why Obie signed Dennis and Shivers. They are both "hitters".Their coverage skills are far from perfect but maybe that is the tradeoff. Now if we could only get Bradley to wrap up on his tackles, our defence would be that much better. I like our secondary and the more they play together, the better they should be.
