??? Your suggesting that by turning down interviews Maas is putting his future at risk, your own words. A young Chris Jones did that on a few occasions and it didn’t affect him. Not sure what part you don’t understand. As long as a guy is successful he will get offers.
This statement is very true. But all it takes is a bad year or two and you’re on the outside looking in. Look at LaPo. He had success in Regina, has his struggles here in Winnipeg and he ends up chasing coaching jobs for a few years. Maas had fantastic results in his first year as OC. But maybe it’s to his detriment. Those kind of results can be difficult to replicate, if Burris throws for 1000 yards less next year and they only have 2- 1000 yards receivers - do people start wondering if teams have caught on to Maas? Sometimes sticking around works for you or you have a comfort level where you are at and don’t want to move, sometimes you have to strike while the iron’s hot.
An OC job with an asst HC title would’ve put him in line to replace O’Shea if he got fired. Maas though has ties to the Esks, and the Chris Jones rumors were going on all playoffs. It would not surprise me if Maas happened to come across someone, truly by accident of course , who might have hinted there was interest in Edmonton in bringing him home should Jones bolt. After all, Ed Hervey did say everyone tampers, right? So maybe Maas tells Desjardins to say no. Anyway, it’s a moot point now. Lapo is hired here and Maas packed his car and is driving the highways to Edmonton for an interview as we speak.
…Surely he has to have more in his future than working under Austin…I know the hiring process and ANYONE declining offers of an advanced position change and refusing same;;;let’s put it this way…doesn’t appear to want to be anymore than what he is presently employed as…NOT a good move in prospective employers eyes… I’m sure a few people in this league have taken note
The #TiCats have denied the #Eskimos permission to speak with DC Orlondo Steinauer about their head coach job. O has 1 more year on contract
See, it’s not just Desjardins. Though I seem to recall Lawless tweeting out that Steinauer had already decided he was staying with the Ticats and had no interest in any of the HC openings, including a potential job in Edmonton.
Last year Austin stated that he contracted with Steinauer for a higher than is norm salary for a Coordinator, plus a longer length of term, in exchange for not moving. Seems like a sane way to go.
…Most likely planning for a move to head coach as Austin moves upstairs…Esks. hit hard and are left looking at a scrap pile for coaching candidates…I guess Thorpe in Mont. would be a consideration or Himebauch but those guys don’t thrill anyone… Maas will be frontrunner and we all know when co-ordinators jump the progression cue what happens, right Mike O …Good luck Hervey… and this in conjunction with a lot of their valued fa’s unsigned and the riders sitting there with salivating chops…I’m predicting a drop from Cup to dumpster for the schmoes next year…I almost feel sorry for them but then I go back to our plight and I change my mind.
