Jason Clermont officially re-signs with the Lions!

VANCOUVER (CFL.ca wire) – B.C. Lions general manager and head coach Wally Buono announced on Tuesday that non-import receiver Jason Clermont has signed a new contract with the team. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not released.

“Jason is an outstanding football player and I am very pleased to have him extend with us,? said Buono. "In addition to being the kind of player our fans want to see, his leadership on the field and in our dressing room is what we build championships around.?

Through 10 games of the 2007 season, Clermont is the Lions’ leading receiver with 48 receptions for 563 yards and three touchdowns.

Breaking into the CFL as the Lions’ first selection (fourth overall) in the 2002 CFL Canadian Draft, Clermont wasted little time making a name for himself as a rugged and sure-handed receiver. After racking up 46 receptions and 735 receiving yards along with six touchdowns that season Clermont was selected as the league’s Most Outstanding Rookie.

He would follow up a solid sophomore season in 2003 with a West Division All-Star campaign in 2004 along with the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian award and Most Valuable Canadian honour in the Grey Cup that season.

“I am pleased to extend my commitment with the Lions and I am grateful that the organization that originally drafted me has made me part of their future plans," said Clermont. "I enjoy my role with the club and I will continue to meet and exceed the their expectations.?

In his defining season as a pro in 2006, Clermont would miss just seven games after tearing his MCL in Week 1. The Regina-native would return ahead of schedule and finish the season with 44 receptions for 507 yards and three touchdowns and be a key component in the club’s fifth Grey Cup championship last November.

Clermont entered the 2007 season ranked as the Lions’ 13th receiver all-time with 4,119 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns – he now ranks 11th with 4,682 yards just 58 behind John Pankratz (4,740).

now those prairie boys can stop making false rumors that clermont is going to regina, and those wannabe journalists and the leader-post ca discontinue their gossip.

Clermont's making $160,000 this year, I'm guessing he'll be making just over $200,000 with this new contract.

In my mind worth every penny.

...a good signing, I thought for sure he was Regina bound....kudos to Wally for locking up a sure thing....

...of course, a trade could always be worked out too...we shall see...

I honestly don’t see Wally trading Clermont for anything at this point. But I guess you never know.

I look forward to #82 being a BC Lion for many years to come.

Good for BC. Suks to be us.

Who wouldn't sign him? He's a good catch....pun intended.

But....there's other great players out there so no worries!

Got Milt?

Milt is still a great import receiver.

CongratulationsRLR....Im sure you've already realized that Jason is as much of a class act off the field as he is on it. I also think there are plenty of years for Jason to spend in Regina after his football career is over. As a Reginan, who was burnt by 'Ja' many a time on Taylor Field(high school days), I can tell you we'll be just as ecstatic to have him here then. Just ask him where he's from and you'll see what im talking about.

Kel

Nothing but a class act from Clermont. We locked up our most important free-agent to an extension before the season ends. Can’t ask for much more than that. Now we just gotta get him another ring

not gonna happen this year, This is the year of the RoughRider!!!
