Jalil Carter to join Ticats?

At the tail end of the sportscast tonight on CHCH it was said "they would have more news tomorrow".

WOW!! Outstanding if true!
6’2" 205lbs DB, 26 years old, starred for 3 years with the blew team, special teams guy too!

More talent for our defense. :rockin:

Sounds good

Did Carter play in a Orlando defence while in Toronto? If so, even better!

8) Yes he did !! In 2012.

Sweet! Thanks Tipper!

He started for them at CB in the 2012 Grey Cup.

If Drew Edwards and CGY beat writer Scott Mitchell posts it, it is pretty solid.

Carter played 3 seasons for #Argos, incl. 2012 for current #Ticats DC Orlondo Steinauer. Signed w/ Vikings this winter. Released end of Aug.

ITS OFFICIAL!!!!!!!!!!!

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the football club has signed international defensive back Jalil Carter.

“Jalil Carter is a proven player in this league and is a great addition to our secondary,? said Tiger-Cats Vice-President of Football Operations, General Manager and Head Coach, Kent Austin.

Carter, a 6-1, 205-pound native of Toledo, Ohio, attended the Minnesota Vikings training camp in 2015 and was released on August 30. Carter has appeared in 34 career CFL regular season games since 2012, all with the Toronto Argonauts, registering 114 tackles, six sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery. He also started two playoff games in 2012, including the 100th Grey Cup where he helped lead the Argonauts to a 35-22 win over the Calgary Stampeders.

Carter, who also spent time in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams in 2011, attended the University of Akron from 2007 to 2010. He played 48 games with the Zips, collecting 118 tackles, three interceptions, one sack and two forced fumbles. In his senior season in 2012, he also played wide receiver and posted 412 yards on 30 receptions with two receiving touchdowns.

Good signing - especially as there have been some injuries in the secondary (Washington, Murray to name a couple)

How long is the contract?

Hearing that DB Jalil Carter's deal with the #Ticats is just through the end of this season. #CFL

Makes sense for a few reasons to only sign him until the end of the year - make sure he fits in with the team and picks up the defense (should have some familiarity due to previous association with Steinauer). Then again, he may not want to commit long term yet if he thinks he might have another shot down south.

There is ZERO advantage to the team of a short contract in this case. Player contracts aren't guaranteed, so if he wasn't a good fit for any reason, the team could release him with impunity, regardless of the length of the contract. Methinks this is all about Carter hoping he can take another run at the NFL next year.

Ex-Argos have become a fruitful resource for us these past couple of years. Nice of them to train our players for us.

Put on the Active Roster right away. Page has been shifted down to the PR, a spot open among the 15 there, with Masoli activated. Source -- CFL Transactions:

Great signing by the Cats even if it's only for 6 games and the playoffs. Kinda akin to an NHL rental player style of deal. The only thing that concerns me about this signing is that it might mean that Murray, Sears and Washington are going to be out of action longer then we think. You would have to think that Carter dresses on Friday night and may be a DI for this one backing up Gainey but you would have to think that he will be starting by game 2 next Friday night when the Riders come to town.

Washington is now on the 1 game as is Murray so they will be back at some point but it certainly won't hurt to have some depth there, as Sears has not been able to stay healthy unfortunately so there's no telling when he'll be back.

Unfortunately that's the story on Sears going back to his days in the Peg. A great player WHEN he's HEALTHY but the one problem with him in his career is that he seems to spend more time on the injury list then the 46 man active list. In the few games he has played for us this season he has been rock solid but so far unfortunately we haven't seen enough of him this season, only brief glimpses in between trips to the injury list. Hopefully he fully recovers from whatever injury he has to come back and contribute late in the season and in the playoffs.

I hope that Rico Murray will be available soon as a D-Backfield 5 consisting of Murray,Davis,Butler,Carter and Steven has me salivating at the potential of this unit ,that is IF we can ever get this group all healthy and on the field at the same time this year.
