In all honesty I have always scratched my head at times as to why we let go some of the players that we have had in recent years .
Yup you absolutely could which begs the question ā¦why did we bother to sign them and give them good FA money in the first place ?
This oneās pretty fishy, heās normally a locker room leader who saves his really great play for the end of the year. We knew what we were getting with him. Iām thinking he said something or some other non football related thing that irked Steinauer or Washington.
Like you said they knew what they were getting with him . I mean both Steinhauer and Washington were here during his first stint with the team in 19 and 21. I honestly canāt see why they would bother to bring him back only to dump him a third of the way thru the season .
The other puzzling thing about this is the fact that they basically gave him away for next to nothing in return . Surely a player of Davisās stature is worth more than a meagre 6th round draft pick ?
He was underperforming and out of shape.
This team is not good enough to wait for āgoodā Davis to eventually show up.
We have better and cheaper Defensive ends on our roster already.
The rolled the dice in free agency and thought a rejuvenated and in-shape Davis was worth 140k.
What they got, was not, and according to reports they were trying to trade him for weeks.
In hindsight, it was a silly signing.
The slogan for the 2023 season could end up being āHindsight is always 20/20ā.
Never discount what Ed Hervey can do to destroy a team eitherā¦
QUESTION
Would you rather have him in the West and get a 6th round pick
Or have him in Ottawa or Montreal and get a 2nd round pick?
He is the guy that when motivated makes a difference.
Whoās the better Defensive end we got?? Kongbo looks in shape but heās a ghost so far. Same with Carney and Bennett is on year 3 of ghostness
ANSWER
Ottawa already has a premiere end in Mauldin and Montreal just signed Lemon . So in reality a trade to either of these teams wouldāve been basically a no go right from the get go as neither of these teams has a need for a Davis in their lineup in the first place . Honestly I would rather have had him go anywhere else with a little more coming our way in return .
Poor player assessment. The 3 GMs are a disaster.
Sure, JG may have had zero sacks in the first five games. But youād have to project that out over a full season to truly gauge his value.
(I donāt have a calculator handy, but Iām thinking itās not a big number.)
Wouldnāt option 3 be the most prudent? That being, find a way to make him motivated & keep him around because thatās what helps your team the most?
Or is that beyond our coaching staff?
Itās the Dane Evans question all over again. If heās that bad that weāre willing to just let him walk for next to nothing, then why do we care if heās in the East? We should be thrilled theyāre willing to play him against us.
Great job Crash . It actually looks like a real honest to goodness untouched photo of Mauldin . Nobody would ever guess that this is a photoshop job . Nice job indeed .
I have a calculator handy. I got zero sacks projected over the next 250 games.
So that answers the question, Iād rather have the 2nd round pick and him play in the East.
Wish we still had Howsare.
A shell of his former self. Good luck in Calgary.
