Ya , you already said that.
Warren is finished as a starting RB with BC IMO but not as a player for BC . He still could be real good for BC playing as a slot or second back with Smith . He's very good catching screens and passes out of the backfield. Take out Chris Bush and give his spot to Warren . Warren still has the best hands of any back in the league . It would really give the Leo's some more offensive options .
Smith power running and Warren catching passes out of the back , I like it.
That is , unless he's in Wally's dog house for other reason's.
Smitty is the man it's good to see a great back playing for the Lion's. I guess Nora's not going to get much time in there. Now we're ready for the Eski's!!
Go Lion's Go!!
If u think Antonio Warren is finished u gat to be joking, sometimes all u stupid people don,t see the problem from the top but just what u read or see on TV, just wait a few more games or see Antonio play for some other team that appreciate him and his game then u will see, with he has done for the BC franchise/ SHOW THE MAN A LIL RESPECT MR BUONO,
Warrens days are seriously numbered. Yes he has good hands catching that screen pass, but what else has he done lately? He really hasn't played well since the Grey Cup game in 2004. After watching Smith in trainning camp a couple of times, I knew this kid was going to do well. Can't wait to see how he does next week.
Shut up and speak some proper english boy. People arent saying he is done and should retire its just that his days are numbered in B.C. its as simple as that. Joe Smith is on his way up and obviously proved that he is worthy of the starting RB spot. Why keep Warren if he isnt doing anything? A change of scenery would probably be the best for him in my opinion.
Oh and I would like to know what exactly he has done for the BC franchise?
Pokey here is what Warren has done since coming over in 04 this is from the site
2005: Led the CFL in rushing TDs with 13 and ranked second overall with 16. Topped the Lions in rushing for the second straight season and piled up 2,179 combined yards (4th in the CFL). Was recognized by the CFL as Offensive Player of the Week for Aug 3/05.
2004: Led the Lions with a career-high 1,136 yards rushing in his first full season on offense. Set a club record with 160 yards on 18 carries in the 2004 Grey Cup game vs Toronto (the second-highest ever number of yards rushing in a Grey Cup game trailing only Johnny Bright's 171 yards in 1956).
Not to mention he is a team player never complaining that they underuse him and let Dickenson lose games for them on a consistent basis. Remember the grey cup in O4 when Casey Printers should have played? The line is atrocious he cannot pick up every guy the let slip through. I hope he gets moved where he can show off his tremendous talent.
A couple of good solid seasons so what do you suggest the BC lions do with him? Would you continue to have him start at RB and continue to not rush for 100 yard games or whatever. The BC O-line is not atrocious.
Ranking in second in TDs and 4th in total yards is more than solid. Before we go writing him off I would like to see him get as many carries as Smtih got. He has only 41 for the whole year. Why are you following Buono's lead and throwing him under the bus?
Im not following anybodys lead, But I agree that he should have had more touches, whats the most carrys hes gotten in one game this season so far?
Joe Smith had 16 last week if I can recall correctly. Which isnt alot of carrys but its a good amount.
Warren is a good player , just not real good as runningback . He ran well in '04 but not last year or most of this season. He ran pretty good his last game , his best this season . But for the most part before that , the BC run game was non-existant .
Part of the blame for that has to go the O-cordinator but also to Warren. When he has been given the ball to run he's been stuffed for little or no gain in the first four games almost every single time he got it.Not exactly a good way of convincing the coaches to give him the ball more often.
Most of those yards he gained are all purpose yards , that is they're receiving yards plus return as well as running yards . But mostly receiving yards.
Most of us Lions fans all along have said he's got good hands, the trouble is his job description ( for those who can't seem to comprehend this )is RUNNINGBACK!!
Yes ,that is correct, he's a running back not a receiver first! There's no one else back there ! And we need a RUNNINGBACK to give us a RUNNING game ! It's part of football and it keeps defences off balance (and off your QB!). Our lack of a running game is what has given the opposition the option of pinning their ears back and coming after DD as well as crowding our receivers.
Enter JOE SMITH , he gave us a real RUNNING game for the first time this season and last! Plain and simple , he beat out AW for that job BECAUSE SO FAR HE'S SHOWN HE'S WAY BETTER AT IT!
So quit crying about it some of you , this is pro sports where new players beat out incumbents all the time. It's not about making players feel warm and fuzzy inside. If some of you want that , that is a good way of getting your team into last place . This is why we pay good money to certain people to make these descisions to keep us competitive. Winning is the game in pro- sports , it's not a beer league. And some of us fans like winning too!
Im not following anybodys lead, But I agree that he should have had more touches, whats the most carrys hes gotten in one game this season so far?
Joe Smith had 16 last week if I can recall correctly. Which isnt alot of carrys but its a good amount.
I believe AW had 14 touches the week before, and barely got half the yards that Smith got.
He had 12 carries for 73 yards (6.1 per carry) by far his best game . He cannot be blamed for not getting carries and to be successful a RB needs to get carries to get into a rythym and the team has to committ to the run. Which they clearly have not done all season. If Smith turns out to be a better back then go ahead and replace him. But, lets not just toss away a solid all around player based on one game. He cannot be blamed for all the problems this team has, including a defense that disappears for whole quarters and a QB that seems to throw INTs at the most inopportune time.
.....true enough but once you are in Wally's bad book it's awfully damn hard to get out of it....
[quote="EJS555"]He had 12 carries for 73 yards (6.1 per carry) by far his best game .
Nope , according to the stats for the game on the CFL main page he got 11 carries for 54 yards. That's close to 5 yards a carry ,prety good , his best in some time . And 4 catches for 25 yards.
I agree it's not his fault the team hasn't put more effort into the running game before this , but the fact he's been stuffed for little or no gain for almost every carry for the four games prior isn't exactly going to make the coaches want to keep trying it either.
…true enough but once you are in Wally’s bad book it’s awfully damn hard to get out of it…
Yup, you’ve seen that movie before, and so have I. LOL
and Smith had 16 for 138, or 8.6 yards per carry.
Let's go over Warren's history for this season:
Carries.....Yards.....TD.....Longest.....Avg
Game 1 Sask @ BC
->>A. WARREN..........5.....5.......0.......7.....1
->>D. DICKENSON......4.....17.....0.....15.....4.25
Game 2 BC @ Sask

->>D. DICKENSON......4.....38.....0.....13.....9.5
Game 3 Argos @ BC
->>A. WARREN..........12.....73.....0.....13....6
->>D. DICKENSON........5.....13.....0......5....2.6
Game 4 BC @ Edm
->> A. WARREN...........7.....23.....0.....9.....3.3

Game 6 BC @ Calgary

Game 3 was Warren's only decent game, and in 5 games, not a single TD. Then we look at Smith for Game 6, and not only do we have an average much higher than Warren's, but we have 2 rushing TD's from our RB.
Warren has a 3.5 yard/carry average. I'm sorry, but with numbers that low, why is anyone surprised that Warren is benched, and Smith has taken his place?
Now, it is Smith's responsibility to prove that he wasn't a one game wonder, that he does have it in him to get the big yards in every game.
btw, does anyone find it interesting that our QB is our leading rusher (with Warren)? I find it very disturbing when the QB rushes for more yards than the backs do.
I don't know where you learned math but, 169 yards divided by 41 carries equals 4.1 yds/carry. And he is the leading rusher over the Dickenson for the whole season and in every game but, two. In those two games he received one more carry and two more carries than Dickenson. But, you are right we will just have to wait and see what Smith does now that he is the starter. I just truely think it is a waste to have a talented guy like Warren sitting on the bench. Couldn't he at least be used as a lightning to Smith's thunder? I think this may have more to do with Buono's monster ego and the fact that Warren is in the last year of his contract, which is just terrible.
Wally fucking Buono just don,t like AW period, he wanna pay Joe Smith peanuts and buy himself another Hummer, just wait till he do the same to Joe Smith in the future, Wally uses his power to hurt his players, he don,t care about winning the grey cup, he just wanna play stupid game no wonder Barry Simpson and Casey Printers left, I think Wally Buono time in BC is numbered not Antonio Warren, what u have to say to this preachers ?
