So why would any other GM/Coach trade with Kent Austin if the reports are correct people do not like him at all. The lack of insight, player depth and talent evaluation have come full circle. Kind of funny the Arblows loose most of their starting offence and some how they manage to find suitable replacements, something Austin has had a hard time with. This is all on Austin because that smirk on his face is about to be removed. Could of had Messama hard running full back style runner. This team has not had a true running threat since 1998. Austins act is starting to run it's course.
Toronto and Calgary make it look easy. Half the offense goes down and yet they keep winning.
Barker and Milanovich knew they needed a pass rusher this season, so they went out and got one. They knew they needed experience and leadership on defense, so they went and got it. They know that in the CFL speed kills, so they surrounded the offense with explosive play makers. Who knew?
To be serious here, we are in a bind even with the bye week to be able to find an external solution at QB. A trade at this juncture simply wouldn't give someone new without some experience in the Condell-Austin system to realistically get up to speed with a shrunk playbook, get in a few practices with basically new guys for him on the first unit, and then throw him into the first annual "Steve Simmons Talked To A Guy and The Tim's 110-Snack Pack is Going To Collapse" Bowl.
The September 1 depth chart reads to me:
Masoli on a short leash
Stephen McGee
Whatever biped has played QB in a Condell-run system who is in football shape.
That's it for Labour Day. We need to scour the NFL cut wire and make a QB trade if need be with the idea of getting that guy ready for a few weeks from now -- unless Zach is good to go at some point.
That is how I see it playing out. If you trade for any of the juicy backup options in the league, prepare to lose a bona fide impact player. CFL GMs are not into charity work when dealing from positions of strength.
LeFevour throws to guys who are open. He does not throw guys open. That is the rub indeed. I am not saying dink-and-dunk can’t win in the CFL, but hitting guys in stride makes a life-and-death crawl to twenty points every game transform into “there’s a fortyburger on the grill!” Stumbling into a thirtyspot with regularity gets you Grey Cup rings.
Difficult to get open when the defense knows the QB cant go deep and all that is left is deek and dunk and plan and defend against short routes accordingly.
Dan Lefevour is your QB and people are trying to blame receivers ? It’s absurd.
