I am probally going to get pummelled for this post since there have been similar ones posted in the past. I was just reading an article about NFLE and noticed that the season will finish 2 weeks later (June 16th) that is has been. So I was thinking that since CFL teams are just winding down there preseasons why not have a third exhibition friendly game against the NFLE teams and have the CFL kickoff on Canada Day weekend. The WB champs would play the GC champs for a friendly title like the Theisman cup LOL and the remaining 5 NFLE teams would play the 5 CFL clubs that made the post season. The reamining 2 CFL clubs would play each other. There could be triple headers on Sat and Sun with games at 1,4 and 7. The NFL Network TSN CBC RDS could televise the game. I figure since all the players are coming back to NA anyway why not?
I personally wouldn't mind seeing the Toronto Argos play the Berlin Thunder or whoever. Comments
Besides the “intrigue” factor, I don’t see the point in inter-league play.
Am not saying NO, just don’t think it’d be that much to watch.
Or having a star player get hurt in a meaningless game
Players get injured in preseason anyway. I just think it maybe it would be a interesting idea to get a little more exposure for the CFL. It would give our players one more game to get ready for the season and it would also give our clubs one more look at players from NFLE. CFL teams pick players off NFLE rosters from time to time. My opinion only
What would be the point of playing against a developmental league?
if we are wanting interleague play it should be a tourney including the grey cup, superbowl and nfle champs all involved. throw in arena league too, why not. truth is a cfl or nfl team couldn't play arena ball, arena team couldn't play canadian or american ball. even an nfl team playing cfl ball would be dumb. there is no way this would show anything other than being an interesting experiment. cfl playing only nfle makes it seem like we are merely a farm team for the nfl and this is not so. if it was nfl castoffs should be able to compete in our league consistently but they often flop. even ricky williams the star rb has been below average up here.
I agree the CFL is not a farm league to the NFL. What made me think of this idea is that in the other football(futball) chelsea played a friendly with the MLS. I think it would be interesting to see a NFLE team which has played together for the last 10 weeks or so play a CFL team that is only in its third week of preseason. I do believe the CFL is superior but given those conditions it could be a good challenge. A third exhibition match would also be good to look at our 2nd and third team players one more time. Who knows if there were some standouts from the NFLE team the CFL club could sign them right there and the player wouldn't have to travel anywhere to get to the club
how bout this concept. a game where we could sign their players and insert them into our lineup immediately. but so the game could go on it would have to be a one for one trade. that way we get who we want and send our castoffs to europe...hmmm/
good idea
First: You keep using the word "friendly" Football is anything but!! It is a game of violence and possession and is played that way. The whole reason for not having alot of exhibition games is because of the injury factor.
2nd: All these dreams some have regarding "interleague" play are just that....dreams! People keep forgetting about the one major difference between the CFL and all the other nfl sponsored leagues......Only the CFL plays 3 down football.
I'd like to see it but it would never happen.
If it did though...
Have a Round Robin with each team facing every other in two games, one with each team's rules.
Top 2 teams play in the final, with the #1 seed getting their field and rules.
No thanks! I don't ever want to see CFL teams playing 4-down American football. Not for a half or alternating years. Never.
If they agree to playing Canadian football only. Maybe it's unfair, but if they don't want to play, no big loss
