As a season seat holder I have a concern as I watched TV yesturday I noticed that ACC In Toronto increased security at the Raptors game are we going to also follow this policy for next game and all future games? I will be calling and asking the Ticat Brass today RIP Nathan
I will not be intimidated either. I won't let the handful of crazies win by allowing them to make me live in fear. Being more vigilant is always smart, but I will not hide in my own home.
This is why we should eliminate ALL security activities and ALL searches at large events, right? And while we’re at it, abolish the police, the RCMP, and CSIS, right? Otherwise the bad guys win.
I agree living in paranoia is silly, but the question of whether current measures are appropriate or not is a valid one.
Stepping up security at football games because a loony toon with a gun did something heinous is an overreaction. Did we step up security over Luca Magnotta? Or the shooter in New Brunswick? Did we start putting guards on buses because of that wacko out west a few years back?
No one was saying anything about axing existing security measures. We were just saying that stepping up security here is unnecessary and promotes a culture of fear that no one wants.
CICS and the RCMP need more resources to adapt to and meet these new threats, I’ll totally agree with that
I don’t think you get it. Of course you step up security this week!!
This is not just about a loonie toon with a gun this was an act by a convert to Islam that wanted to be a terrorist, did you forget the guy in St jean on Monday that used his car to murder another Canadian Forces member. How many more of these wannabe converts to Islam are out there?
They have to be vigilant this week because of retaliation or copy cats by more of these terrorists. They especially have to be on guard at public events, there is going to be a huge police/security presence tonight at the Ottawa game.
Who would have thought that someone would try to murder Canadian Forces members in uniform on Monday and then 2 days later shoot dead a Forces member guarding the Cenotaph and then an on attack Parliament
Do you think that it is just coincidence that these attacks happened on the same week that our forces are heading to the Mid East to take part in the fight against ISIS???
So you don’t show any concern or sympathy for Cpl Cirillo or WO Vincent, or their families who are grieving right now?
All you are concerned about is yourself and how stepping up security may inconvenience YOU???
I suppose you couldn’t care less what is going on in the world. But by your rant I don’t think you know what’s going on in the world.
A time like this you have to make political statements… :thdn:
I don't think it's a bad thing to increase security during a higher period of alert and I don't worry at all that it is an inconvenience, I am only saying that I will not let these crazies impact the way I live my life. I will not live in fear. I fully understand why some people are afraid and also understand the need for extra security at venues that could be at risk. We need to be smart and take notice of things that may appear out of the ordinary and report them as necessary. I have the utmost respect for our Service men and women and support anything that makes them as safe as possible.
I know I went to one game in Toronto - I think it was one of the Bills in Toronto games when for some reason the USA was on a higher security footing so therefore the NFL was for all their games that weekend - and not only did you have to open your jackets to show you were not hiding anything under it, and of course all bags/purses were searched - like they do for every game at the RC - but they also quickly wanded everybody going in.
I had no problem with that.
Of course the difference with securing arenas or an enclosed stadiums is you control access to it. Totally different scenario trying to secure a venue like THF that is wide open to the street for any crazy with a gun. In that case you have to rely on police since stadium security would not be armed.
Bottom line is you let the professionals determine what security they feel is needed -- and us fans just have to assume they know what they are doing and continue acting just like we did before this week - enjoying the game. We can't live in fear - otherwise they've won.

I think you completely missed the point here and changed what he was saying to your own thoughts. Way out of line.
The original post was to heighten security at THF, Cats dont play there till the 8th. security at THF is fine the way it is. I agree with the other posters that were rational. There's no need to be intimidated, This is the act of one psycho individual that committed something so terrible and we all should remember what happened to keep that soldiers memory alive. But to live in fear to the point you want heightened security everywhere you go is playing into exactly what this pathetic individual wanted.
I was saying there's no need to increase security at football games because of the actions of one person.
Where in my post do you think I was saying that I don't care about these soldiers' families or don't want my life inconvenienced?
I honestly don't know how you could have interpreted what you said from what I wrote, but if you're going to call me names like that, I think I deserve to hear your reasoning
I've worked at Pearson airport for a number of years and since 9/11, security has changed big time, even for those who work there. Screening is a LOT tougher. Entrances and exits are more secured. What is allowed in, outside contractors, tools and such is more limited, and so on.
When I first started working there around 1992, I used to see the RCMP patrolling in their historic red tunics. Lately, police officers with automatic weapons.
Back then, I took my son to PIA to see the Concorde up close. I walked him right through the facility with nary a question or query. We got right up to the loading gate and stood there for sometime, while he got a view of it. These days, I could not even bring a colleague to our office there without clearance and a visitor's pass and he would be quite restricted as to where he could go.
Let me make something clear here , I AM NOT living in fear or letting the bad guys win FACT: Canada will NOT be the same after all this we are living beside our Brothers the USA and have taken on the policy of sending 6 F18 Fighters to fight ISIS a full squadron do you guys watch the news? 90 Fellow Canadians have had pass ports revoked , we are in a changing climate in Canada and we must adjust accordingly by adjusting security measures so adding say 4 police officers say two per side is saying to the bad guys you won?! Your comments are totally stupid :thdn: protecting Canadain interests in our own country will definitely be stepped up wake up and smell the Tim's Coffee ! Do you think the soldiers guarding the tomb at Arlington cemetery in the US have no Ammo in the Guns they carry, it was a total RCMP screw up that this crazy lone wolf even entered the parliament building that guy should have never made it inside . So wake up things are totally different in Canada now , and you will see more security all over , wait till the Pan Am games it will be big bucks for sure$$ so quietly adding say 4 police on duty at THF would be a stupid idea ?! Come on times have changed in Canada at any public event we are now another State called Ontario!
