…The 2 min warning came about during the early days of the pro game as the official time was kept on the field instead of the visible scoreboard.The 3 min warning is similar although can’t find any history of it as when it comes to history the CFL hasn’t done a great job preserving it’s own history.The 40 second play clock is intriguing though.

I don’t know if this went into the decision, but US also has three timeouts per half, and a lot of them get used by a team driving to score late in a half. It seems to me that CFL clock rules and the longer warning time tend to balance out the lower number of timeouts.

Also like the clock running during point after touchdown attempts.

In all they have a 3 hour block to get their games in.
