If we can't complain about the Grey Cup half-time act yet...

Theory of a Deadman played in Montreal. It was the Black Eyed Peas in Vancouver last time.

One could argue about who was the best half time show ever, I personally thought Trooper in Edmonton was the best I have enjoyed. I also personally thought that the Black Eyed Pees were the worst (but I’m old).

And that's why people complain about it every year: it's impossible to find a music act that will please everyone (or even half of everyone).

I mean they could pick something everybody can agree to hate, but that's probably the extent of it.

I’ve posted this before and will post it again:

The performance transcended generations. Grannies to kids all singing “Raise a Little Hell”, of course it did help us all stay a tad warmer. Nonetheless, I have yet to here anybody complain about that show. I know that I don’t personally know everbody but what I witnessed in 1997 will be hard to beat. 60,000+ people singing along was a happening.

While I am on my soap box. What is wrong with singing along. The one negative people brought up about the opening and closing ceremonies in Vancouver was that they couldn’t sing along to O Canada cause the arrangement had the singers yodelling the song and nobody could join in.

Not in my honest opinion, my favorite from last 8 GC I attended: Lenny kicked some serious butts in '07 !

Like I wrote this morning on Twitter:

They should not announce it until the actual half-time since 1/3 will complain they dont like the band, 1/3 will like the band & 1/3 will be inline for washroom !

I remember Luba, in Winnipeg in '91!!! THAT was awesome!!!!!

I also liked the Hip in Ottawa ('04...?), but they are a "love'em or hate'em" type band. I jope its not Nickelback - I say that every year, one of these years, it will come true!

My guess, it will be Drake - he's huge in the hip-hop world right now, he is Canadian, and I would say he is very "Vancouver's speed" if that means anything.

As long as its not BTO/Guess Who/Bachman Turner (anything)/Burton Cummings or the Nylons (they have had their time being the feature act - it was the entirety of the 80s!).

I have always preferred Luba’s 78 version of When a man loves a woman. Watching youtube clips of her singing it in late 90’s early 2000’s, its not quite a good. She lost something. Did she happen to sing that song in 91, do you remember?

If only B J Thomas was a couple of decades younger.

Oh please, no hip hop, rap, crap. I would rather they went with the super dogs. At least they are entertaining.

I’ll echo that. Was scratching mt head as to who he was until you pointed it out.

Thankfully the attraction to the Grey Cup is the game not the halftime show and commercials.

These guys get my vote,

I think the Sheepdogs would be a good performance. They have been playing smaller venues, but are a great band. They recently won a contest to get on the cover of The Rolling Stones.

Via Twitter, Ian Busby is saying it's Sloan, but I can't find any reference to confirm. Dave Randorf says it will be announced at halftime on Friday night.

Only two more days before we get to complain!

(If it is Sloan, I'd be perfectly happy, though. They're one of my favourite Canadian bands.)

Sloan, unkind.

BTO vs Bachman and Turner??? Tomato Tommato…Just for legal reasons they have to call themselves Bachman and Turner for the time being…will probably easily win in court…Ted Overdrive is taking legal action

Yea, I'm hearing a lot of buzz on Twitter about Sloan being the half-time act......weak. I thought for a major city like Vancouver they would have got someone bigger. I recent years I can only think of 2 decent half-time shows

  1. 2007 - Lenny Kravitz
  2. 2004 - The Hip

As far as I can tell, the Twitter buzz started with Ian Busby, whose source is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Gr … rformances Since it provides no external reference, I’m not putting any faith in it.

Not a big name band but I’ve seen them live and they are perfect for a 12 minute set. Great RnR band and far better than another Black eyed Peas.

I can honestly say I’ve never seen a show I didn’t like, and I’m an old fart by some standards. They only play 3 tunes at most so even if you are a music snob surely you can bear it for that long. Now if they brought in a children’s act and were playing “Itsy Bitsy Spider” or some such song I’d definitely NOT want that, but I generally like all kinds of music from hard rock and R & B to jazz and even a little opera, so I’m pretty easy to please. Vive la différence I say.

I know some really hated TOADM, but I had never heard them before their G.C. appearance and I actually bought their album after that. That made me have a look at other Vancouver bands such as Swollen Members and others and some of those bands have produced some songs I very much like. So I say bring on the unknowns and up and comers and help broaden my music tastes. It doesn’t mean I have to like every single tune the band does, but checking out one can lead to a whole new thread of music — if you let it.

In Edmonton it was great to see Bachman-Turner and they blew the doors off the place, so to speak. In the “tailgate” party Trooper played and they were fantastic. But those guys have had their shot. There’s are lots of others who go also do a great job, and to me personally I don’t particularly care what sub-genre they play. It could be anybody from Sam Roberts to R.A.A. or Great Bid Sea and I’ll be happy. They’ll all do a fine job regardless IMHO.
