So if your wife starts looking a little older do you get rid of her and get a new one.
Totally different situation. Getting older is a natural part of life and a marriage is based on alove and commitment. It is also an equal partnership between two people if one person is unahppy it is considerably easier to explain to them why you are upset than it is to a sports team. The only way a sports team listens is if you speak with your wallet
Still though, I see Bobby's point. I think that we have been spoiled as Als fans since they came back in 1996. Since then, they have never played below .500 which, if memory serves, are the only team in the CFL to do so.
Many people are acting as if the Als are saying, "Hey, we sell out...so why bother getting better?" but I don't think that this is the case. Did Popp either smooth talk or force the top brass' hand to make him head coach? Most likely. Did he want the head coach job in the first place knowing the team would suffer? Probably not. Given his ego, he probably thought that he could take the team to the promise land.
That being said, I truly believe that if the Als fall flat this year, Popp WILL be replaced. I can't see Wettenhall standing put with the head coach of a losing team. The only losing team he ever had.
Actually the comparison is more akin to a hooker you pay a couple hundred bucks to be "entertained" for a couple hours
Im pretty sure their not trying to lose. Every team is trying to win my point is that you cant be the best every year. It just doesnt happen. You are the most sucessful team on the field for the last 10 years Hamilton the least sucessful and Im pretty sure their not trying to lose either.
I agree with you but Mtl fans are demanding.
They want a winner each and every year.
Mind you the Als have been to the cup 5 times in 7 years and lost 4 of them and the fans keep coming. They have been patient but that patience may be wearing thin
We are the most succesful team on the field for the past 10 years? Hamilton the least succesful? That depends on how you define succesful. If you define succesful by regular season wins, then the Als are tops.
If you define succesful by Grey Cup wins (it should be all about winning championships), then Hamilton has won as many grey Cups (one) as the Alouettes during the last 10 years. The Argos, have won 3 times as much (3 Grey Cups going back to 1996). It should be mentionned that both of those teams have gone bankrupt during that same span; have had no ownership and needed the league to take control of the team (and Toronto could not draw fans to its games). BC won 2 Grey Cups, and Calgary with MARCUS CRANDELL (in our own stadium) won as many Grey Cups during the last 10 years.
The Als have dominated statistics and regular season wins in the last 10 years. All of those good teams came up WAY too short in what really counts: GREY CUPS. The Als have not been the best every year like you say (not where it counts).
I have 2 corrections to make on my last post: Calgary actually won 2 Grey Cups (since 1996). I forgot about their 1998 Cup. And, the good ole Eskimos have won 2 as well (I wonder why I forgot those two Cups…). More proof that the Als have dominated nothing since 1996!
I guess you didnt get my generalisation. I guess none of you would ever go to a Canadiens game ever again . I wonder where they will move to?

Not sure what you’re getting at, frankly.

The canadiens are something entirely different. First of all the team is building towards greatness and most of the fans can see that and can get behind that. You dont need to be great every year but you need to be better every year and the habs are just that they are improving year to year. theyve had their setbacks but there is a clear picture from management where the team is headed.
Popp’s head is so far up his ass that the only thing he could give a clear picture of at this point is what he had for dinner last night. The team is free falling and all management is giving are a bunch of should haves and could haves Popp has hijacked the team and is bringing it down but there has not been any indication management is going to do anything about mostly because Popp is answerable to seemingly no one. Im not going to throw my money at poor management and an egomaniacal coach/gm/vp/hot dog vendor/king/chearleader
What mada7 said. Also, the Canadiens prior to Bob Gainey and Andre Savard were coming off a brutal stretch in the '90s when Houle & co. were running the team into the ground. Rebuilding the team, and more importantly, its farm depth, takes a long time. Savard started the process and Gainey and Trevor Timmins have been building on it for a while.
By contrast, Popp has taken a team that went to the Grey Cup final last year and turned it into a shambles in less than one season! Needless destruction, needless change in some areas, no change where change is desperately needed in others, Popp's hubris, bad hires (Bellefeuille), and an overextension that has left Popp unable to perform his GM duties properly. Dissension on the team, players openly criticizing Popp (including veteran / D leader Strickland), questionable releases, personnel mistakes that have come back to haunt us (Terrence Edwards, anyone?). It's the team doing badly that I mind. It's the complete disarray that this team is in, and the sickening knowledge that as long as Popp is in charge, nothing is really going to change. I'm not paying money to encourage THAT.
