I was at the Argo game - My comments

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed that Thigpen looked way better than Cobb when he ran the ball.

It's been obvious to me that Cobb just isn't quick enough to make consistant gains, while Thigpen has shown explosive speed.

I really believe Thigpen was a little banged up for a while and this was the reason he was not getting touches on offense. He now appears healthy again and has that extra gear to get away from players while Cobb gets caught by everyone.

I don't know if I'm all for having Thigpen as the feature back as I don't know that his body can handle the beating he would take. At this point I wouldn't mind bringing in Harris to see what he can do either against Montreal and/or Calgary. These will be tough games to win and we may need to try something new. If not, I think they need to have Thigpen run the ball more than Cobb.

As far as Kevin Glenn and the OC goes. This game was rather workman-like from an offensive standpoint, and to be honest I think that was all we needed to do to beat the Argos. Just execute a simple offence and shutdown their special teams, and you can chalk up a W against the Argos. That's pretty much the way this one went. Why expand the playbook when it wasn't necessary.

We have rarely opened the playbook all year so this would have been a good time to do it.

Earl, I’m just saying that I know horrible football when I see it. That was brutal. I also know a lot of people who aren’t normally interested in CFL ball – but were up for watching this game. And, I’m sure the TV ratings would’ve started off pretty high. What did people get? A turf-stained football that was turned over about 8 times. One team that showed absolutely nothing in the way of offence – and, I really didn’t think we showed anything to write home about either. Yes, our D looked good, but so would U of T’s against that team.

I can watch pretty much anything related to the Ticats – but I had to check out of this one early.

very boring game.

If we play exactly like we did in toronto with the same intensity and everything exactly like it was...we'll get murdered by montreal.

I really hope the coaches and players realize that. Cleo lemon is complete crap and our offense did nothing until the argos D was tired as hell, it may sound weird after a 30-3 win but the ticats will lose the next two if there not way better than they were friday.

Bang on, IMHO. Seven turnover games against one-dimensional teams don’t necessarily translate against elite opposition. This kind of thing really can’t be dialed up. We’ll see if the approach is ratcheted up next week…otherwise, the song will remain the same.

I was watching the game on TSN ( replay ), and couldn’t help but shake my head at the pathetic offense we displayed.
We couldn’t get any sustained drives; we couldn’t run the ball effectively; we couldn’t get out of our endzone if our life depended on it.
So, I was thinking back to the last Montreal game, where McPherson killed us. Or other previous Montreal games.
The big difference is: Montreal tries to get a 1st down every chance. For example, on the play when we were backed up in the endzone - Glenn goes back to pass, and completes for an 8-yarder. WHY? We need 10 yards for a 1st down.
Now, we are 2nd and a long 2. Our running games wasn’t going, so Cobb was not an option. Glenn goes back to pass once more, & gets sacked.
CAN ANYONE TELL ME, WHY WE DON"T TRY GOING THE 10-12 YARDS TO GET A 1ST DOWN?
I blame this on the GIBSON offense - I disagree with his philosophy.
.
What single word, I thought, describes their offense? And it came to me - ANEMIC.
As in:
Tampa Bay Rays should be embarrassed by anemic offense - St. Petersburg Times

ANEMIC as in - inept, powerless, feeble.
.
I cannot see us beating Montreal - so we are back to being just a .500 club - nothing more, nothing less.

We win a game against our most hated opponent, and people complain. It’s SICKENING!!!

As much as I absolutely dislike the Blew Team - you must take into consideration that they have a very talented defense. The Cats scored on opportunities that were provided. The TD catch to McDaniel was blown coverage on a blitz package. The
TD to Bruce was blown coverage by the DB McLauglin who was peaking in our backfield and complimented by a super atheltic play. The Blew team were keying on Cobb all night. If I were the OC, I would have brought Cobb and Thigpen in the backfield together. I would have also lined Thigpen up as a wideout and slot back. The fastest player on our team can not be ignored by Gibson witch appears to be case.

The only concern I have is the fact that our DB play too far off the ball and can not cover well man on man. I sure Marcel, Obie and Marshall understand this and that's why there are two new DB in practice. If the Tiger Cats play with the same intensity this week against Montreal and target the DB who is continually penalized - we have a good opportunity of winning the game. Our DB will have too play a perfect game and our pass rush must get pressure on Anthony.

Playing too far off the ball? At times, especially on the short dump passes. But I thought they were much better this week than in previous games. Three interceptions (almost four), three knockdowns, and only two passes with significant YAC the whole game. I also only remember one play where the receiver was wide open on a long pass, and that was the broken play on Toronto’s first drive where Lemon was scrambling, giving McNeal time to get open.

All in all, a pretty good showing, in my opinion, especially given our three injured DBs.

I suspect that’s just Obie’s “better is better” mantra coming into play. It’s always worth a look at who else could be better, although I suspect at this point, it’s more geared to looking for next year. Unless the new DB is absolutely amazing - a real “shut-down corner”, say - I don’t think they’d consider bringing someone completely new into the team.

Montreal is definitely a better team than Toronto, but I agree with you that we have an honest shot at beating them. And yes, we won’t be able to afford to make many (any?) mistakes. Until we have a four touchdown lead, I’m not going to be able to relax watching the game. And I suspect that’s not going to happen; I probably won’t have any fingernails left by the end of the game. but given their performance against Winnipeg this week, i think it’s going to be a close one all the way.

I hope the team and the coachs were watching the Winnipeg/Montreal game today. They certainly could have learned alot from Winnipegs approach to the game.
Jyles used his legs and rolled out a lot. Something Glenn needs to do more of.
The deep threat for Winnipeg was real on every pass, Montreal has the most penilized DB's in the league.
Balanced attack, run and passing game. Personally this would be a good game to get Thiggy and Cobb in the back field to widen the line.
I pray a couple of our injured DB's are ready to play. No disrespect but I feel Bo gives up way to much space.
60 minutes of pressure on Calvillo is the only way to beat this team.
Shut down Colburnes running game, and the short dump pass Anthony drops to him a half dozen times a game.
DeAngilis needs to be ready for the game of the season, we will need every point we can get to beat the Montreal.
Go Cats Go!!

Hey, no need for this. The Blues are 3-4 and look could very well make the OUA playoffs this season.

(Please note that this is semi-sarcastic. The Blues have been awful for a long time, but as a student at UofT I am excited by the prospect of playoff football for the Blues.)

LOL! Sorry blogskee! That team baffles me, too. They go and beat Ottawa and then get demolished a week later at Queen’s. Oh, and I think there’s a forfeit victory in there, too!!

There is a forfeit win, but it counts, lol.

The win against UofO was especially nice because I have friends who have gone there. The Blues seem to be turning into a respectable team. When I started going there, one win was a pipe dream. Now a playoff birth is possible. I’m hoping that by the time I’m in my 40s, they might actually be something to brag about.

I totally agree. That was borderline-CFL opposition. We’ve seen enough garbage teams here to know one when we see one. The Argos had very, very little to offer and then they self-destructed in the latter stages. No other professional team will give us that kind of grace (hopefully).
And another thing (now that my ranting is in full swing) anyone who’s in the Argos and/or the CFL front office should never, ever hint that Toronto has anything close to an attendance problem. It’s truly unfortunate that more than 25,000 poor souls endured that. That franchise would be better served if they played in front of empty houses until they sorted out their product issues. And I’m not saying our team is totally innocent in all of this either. If we want to sell CFL football on southern Ontario, the first step is to not turn people off with the stench of the teams.

Argos have a very decent defense, great rb in Boyd and a guy like Owens should be a star in this league for years to come. But they've got a problem at the qb position.

I’m not sure I agree on this one, at least not based on Friday’s game. From what I saw, only one pass came his way all night, and he wrapped up his receiver right away. (I am missing two passes in my notes, both for completions, which may or my not have gone his way.) There were a lot of quick dump passes (I didn’t keep track of who the nearest DB/LB was on those), but again, all but one were wrapped up right away.

If Bo were playing off his receivers too much, I would have expected more passes his way, and there would have been more YACs on those plays. As I didn’t see this, I’m thinking he must have done a fairly good job in coverage.

No?
