Indeed they do. Which is why even if a game during the week has more viewership than some of the bottom ranked shows in the list, they are never displayed since games usually average out to 800k or so (especially because RDS is only counted in the French Canada ratings and never contribute to overall CFL football ratings for TSN for the purposes of this list.
As for the time used in the table, they just display the first of the events.
The overnight numbers for the 100th GC are on the TSN website front page --------The press release is quite lengthy , but the bottom line in that the numbers represent a record------ Average of 5.8 million combined TSN and RDS up something like 28% over last year.
Mikem will probably poo poo these numbers but they are there in black and white
Nothing to be ashamed of. Those are great numbers, just think back 10 years ago those numbers would of been a dream and 10 years ago Rogers/Skydome would have had a tough time selling out the game. All positive going into the next 100 years of this great league
The 100th GREY CUP scored big on – and off – the field last night, as the country united to watch one of the biggest sporting events in Canadian history on TSN and RDS.
Preliminary overnight data from BBM Canada confirms that the 100th GREY CUP delivered an average audience of 5.5 million viewers on TSN, making it the most-watched CFL championship game ever recorded on English-language television.
Meanwhile, an average audience of 5.8 million watched the 100th GREY CUP on TSN and RDS, marking a 28 per cent increase in viewers compared to last year and earning an incredible national 16.1 rating. Audiences jumped even higher for younger viewers, with a 38 per cent increase among Adults 18-34.
Overall, more than 13 million Canadians – or more than one in three Canadians – tuned in to watch some or all of last night’s broadcast on TSN and RDS.
In the Toronto Extended Market, more than 3.6 million viewers watched some of the 100th GREY CUP on TSN – close to half the population in this market.
“It’s clear that Canadians embraced the GREY CUP like never before, making the 100th edition of the game an undeniable success not only for TSN and RDS, but also for the CFL and all Bell Media platforms that thoroughly supported the game this week,” said Stewart Johnston, President of TSN. “Yesterday’s 100th GREY CUP was an important milestone in Canadian history and we are all tremendously proud that we were able to share this game with fans across the country.”
“Tradition dictates that only the Grey Cup Champion Toronto Argonauts can hoist our iconic trophy above their heads, but so many Canadians wrapped their arms around the Grey Cup and lifted our league up in this historic year,” said Mark Cohon, Commissioner of the Canadian Football League. “Today’s television ratings are a testament to that fact, the strength of our league, and the love Canadians have for the Grey Cup.”

Over 100k watching the live stream online as well. I know it doesn't count toward the official ratings, but for all intents and purposed 6 million viewers watched last night. Wonder if/when the NBC Sports #'s will come out. The much heavily promoted MLS only gets 50-75k on average with a PAID tv contract. I think it's reasonable to say the Grey Cup most likely matched those numbers.
Those are some outstanding numbers! I dont know how you do it, but the CFL has got to bottle this up some how and push the product like this EVERY year! Its too bad that we cant get right into the 2013 season…maybe with no NHL going, the hangover from this year’s CFL season will last a little longer.
Love the stats for the Engraved on a Nation!
Love that the Vanier Cup is getting some love too! Hopefully they take that to Regina next year!
Good job CFL, and good job CFL fans!
For those curious the "big" MLS Cup is his saturday so im assuming by this coming sunday that we'll have a solid comparrison but IMO it won't even come close to the Grey Cup
Great numbers, overall. Especially in the Southern Ontario market. 3.6 million cared enough to watch at least part of the game. I think if anything this Grey Cup has proven that the argos do indeed have fans, now they need to make sure some or most of them stay on the bandwaggon.
I'd be curious to see how all that compares with the NFL game that night. I'd heard a couple of comments about how more people would watch that, and I'd love to have some ammo to fire back.
Because of Thanksgiving, there was only ONE game televised on Fox, started at 4PM and over around 7PM, the evening NFL game started at 8:40 PM. So the Grey Cup didn’t have much competition between the 7 and 9 PM time slot, no hockey, no basketball, no NASCAR.
According to TSN, 5.8 million, just as I predicted NOT 7.5 million. Still great numbers!!
Why would there be any comparison with the MLS Championship game? different fans altogether and NO Canadian teams involved. CFL viewers don’t watch MLS and I doubt MLS fans watch the CFL
People like to say that, but there’s a lot of sports fans that are sports fans. They like to watch big games in a lot of sports, and both of these are big games.
Hell, the Grey Cup draws in a ton of viewers that don’t watch the CFL during the rest of the year very often (if at all), and it’s not a stretch to assume there’s MLS fans in that group.
