Win baby, win
I tend to suspect you are correct on that.
We`re all upset about the current state of the team, going off in different directions, but it all comes down to not having a QB.
With a Ray, Mitchell, Reilly, Glenn, Willy we`d probably be 3-3 even with the dysfunctional coaching hiring process and the fallout from that. With a decent QB suddenly Higgins looks like a Head Coach, Popp is an ace recruiter again and Thorpe is a defensive guru.
So right now all I care about is finding a QB. Everything else is secondary. With no QB you can bring back Trestman and the record wouldn`t be any different.
And credit to Jeff Garcia for quickly determining Smith was not going to be the answer and getting the team to move on. Im curious to see how he works with Brink, Crompton, Marsh. And if the next guy isn
t in house you just have to bite the bullet and keep looking.
and starting for the als in 2015, kevin glenn........
Possible but I think the Als will be more interested in a Trevor Harris or a Mitchel Gale.
I haven't seen Gale outside of short yardage. What do you see in him?
Very, very accurate passer, carreer 65 to 70 percent passer, he’s big, durable, the right age, makes smart decisions with the football. Strong arm completed 50 yard or longer completions in over 70 percent of games played.
Trevor Harris extended with Tor. in July until 2015 so he`s out.
I would want Dan LeFevour with grooming by A.C. and/or Garcia.
There are legit questions about LeFevour's arm strength, though.
Bring back Stanley Jackson !!!
Seriously, I doubt that Popp is going to go the route of picking up some other CFL team's backup, even though going that route seems to have worked out rather nicely for Edmonton and Winnipeg.
I suspect that his game plan would be to scour the US colleges and/or look to NFL backups or QBs recently released from the NFL.
What's Joey Elliott doing? I always liked him better than Brink, and he did get two offensive player of the week awards. He's not in BC anymore is he?
Not in BC.
He’s not playing, but is running a coaching school for high school QBs.
http://www.completethepass.com/Yes, he was superior to Brink.
I don't see how you could bring in Joey "The interception machine" Elliot and not give a legitimate opportunity to Tanner first.
Marsh did provide some excitement last season in two games before his injury took him out. He's in the QB system, knows the playbook etc. Nothing to lose by giving some playing time. I think our team us in a crucial spot. I don't see them beating Sask and, Toronto's big win might continue especially when Durie and Owens return to play. They have picked up a couple of fast new guys and, Ray is back to form. The Als will have to win all games against Ottawa to get a playoff spot.
I'm not even worried about the playoffs this year.
Whether we manage to squeak in because it's a 9 team league really doesn't matter to me, contending for championships is what I'm looking for, I don't see it this year. Then again BC had a knack for the pulling off the big turnarounds mid-season, but I'm not holding my breath here.
So this year for me is strictly about finding the QB we want to go forward with.. bring in as many guys as it takes.
I'm ok with Brink being there while the coaching staff settles in, but once that's done start trying out new guys.
I do try to remind myself that at one point Calvillo was some worthless backup reject, and with the right team & the right support.. he blossomed. So I'll try to keep open mind about anyone they try out, just as long as we're not sticking with Smith off his NFL/Heisman rep only.
AC accomplished what he did without a "special" arm. He mastered the right touch for various throws as well as timing with receivers. Took him four years. In today's CFL he would have long been discarded before he ever made it.
At least someone was catching Elliott’s passes, unlike Brink.
