I mean come on. It’s local news.
well, they did.
just not many highlights. 6pm news showed masoli getting injured and him getting carried off the field.
but yes, would be nice to see all the highlights from the game.
But TSN has exclusive TV rights for the CFL and may not be amenable to other stations showing all the highlights of the game. And there is limited time during a newscast so not time for many highlights to be shown if they did have permission. The only place to see all of them is on the CFL site.
TSN’s broadcast rights don’t prevent other news/sports outlets from reporting on the league, teams or games… including showing highlights. In fact I’m sure it’s encouraged. Here in BC, Global regularly devotes a significant amount of it’s sportscast to the Lions. Considering the Ti-Cats are Hamilton’s only significant professional sports team (sorry Forge and Rock) I’m surprised at CHCH’s lack of coverage.
And tsn highlights video on YouTube doesn’t even have sound but the cfl one does
They usually do… but you’re right there’s no sound on the TSN YouTube highlights of Saturday’s Ti-Cat game. A technical glitch no doubt.
One lowlight from the visiting team doesn’t count.
Why wouldn’t you go to TSN to get your highlights, not only on Sports Centre but you can go on-line to watch all highlights on TSN.ca?
Waiting for a local news stations for highlights? it’s 2023 and everyone has the internet
Really good point Garney!
In December of 2015 CHCH had a massive layoff. They got rid of most of their Senior staff and on-air personalities. Since then the quality of their broadcasts has gone downhill. Quite often they have major technical glitches during a broadcast and the reporting seems very amateur.
When CH does bring in a talented anchor such as Nick Dixon, they stay for a few years and then bolt for a better paying job like CP 24.
I guess this is the economic reality moving forward for local TV stations if they want to survive.
CH has become the proving ground for media/communications grads coming out of college. They put in a couple of years there as a beat reporter then try to get a gig in Toronto or get moved to an anchor spot. Was like that even before Channel Zero taking over. It’s a long, long way from even the Dan MacLean/Connie Smith days.
CHCH’s lack of money probably has a lot to do with their almost non-existent Tiger Cat coverage. Much changed from the days when they were one of the leading independent TV stations in Canada with Dick Beddoes as Sports Director and a history of producing shows like Tiny Talent time, The Hilarious House of Frightenstein and Don Cherry’s Grapevine to name a few…
Does anybody else remember the show “Sportsline” which ran on CHCH and was co-hosted by Mark Hebscher and Bubba O’Neil? Both would give their unfiltered opinions on sports topics. I clearly remember Bubba making fun of and insulting the CFL at every turn. I guess the CFL is alright now since Bubba is employed by the Tiger-Cats.
CHCH is sadly just a shell of what it once was. Between the mass firings of December 2015 and moving to a tiny studio in Clappison Industrial Park, their programming leaves much to be desired.
CHCH also had an excellent show on Sunday nights, if I remember correctly, called Between The Uprights. Paul Osbaliston gave his honest, sometimes brutal, assessment of the Ticats.
Anyone recall that midweek highlight show, early 80s, something like “Ticats '82” . Female host, forget the name, made an off hand remark HAM cheerleaders were the least attractive in the leqgue… Caused a bit of a stink. Cathy Renwald and Ken Welch hosted later . Show reappeared, dissapeared for years.
That’s why i despise the big phony.
I said it before it’s 2023 and we live in the internet world.
Everyone has the internet, you can watch your sports news, games etc on your phone on the bus anywhere.
Less people have access to TV stations like CHCH, people cutting the cord don’t have access to TV stations.
The advertisers understand it and TV stations and networks are laying off staff everywhere. CTV just had massive layoffs.
I dont think Buuba actually dislikes the CFL. Those opinion shows require each host to take a stance opposite the other so that they can banter.
Hebsher had a similar show for news / politics with Donna Skelly…turns out Skelly wasn’t faking her opinions.
This wasn’t a case of taking opposite sides to banter. Both of them were making fun of the CFL. Like Garney 26 said “big phony”.
