Hot rumour around the CFL and many G.M's are hot and furious.
Speculation is that Casey Printers has asked for his release.
The K.C. Star reported last night and one of the Chiefs training camp shows on a local station reported that Smoker was brought in because 1 of the QB's has given hints he may walk away.
That player is not known, but we suggest it is Casey Printers because 1 CFL team had apparently offered him a huge salary-long term deal with a reported $1.2 million signing bonus.
The deal would have to get done by the end of the season before the salary cap kicks in so the bonus would not be added to the 2007- end of contract year.
I have spoken to 3 CFL team clubs and they have heard of this rumour and they think the commisioner is going to have to do something about it if it occurs.

I dont understand, isnt Printers under contract with BC until the end of the year considering he is in his option year? Wouldnt this mean he would become a free agent in Feb like everyone else?
Im confused, i know im not on the inside like Vince McMahon over here but i dont get it.

I'm not too sure how much salt I should take with this "breaking news"...a grain?.....a boatload?
Nevertheless, if this was in some strange way even remotely possible....it wouldn't surprise me if it was the @&*# Argos blowing the big bucks to sign him.

I say Printers rights are available through a trade with BC for this year as they have two QB's again.Dickenson and #16 ,who has impressed.
So yes , any team wanting to talk to Printers has to make a deal with them.
I don't think it would take that much though as these deals help the league and we are lacking in good talent up here.

Casey will be in real tough to make the Chiefs.
Trent Green is the #1.
They have a 10 year vet in Huard.
They drafted a QB themselves this year in the 3rd round Brodie Croyle.
That doesn't look too good for a chance to show, and he may be released and re-join the CFL.
Remember he was only the second best QB on B.C. last year!
That's probably why they will give him enough snaps to make a decision about him quickly. If he is going to hold a clipboard and be released a year down the road, might as well come back to what looked like a promision career. BC would not trade Printers.
At the very worst Printers takes a spot on the practice roster. The signing of Jeff Smoker was to deal with a short term problem. The most likely scenario is for Croyle(the kid they drafted and currently injured) to end up on IR. Herm Edwards saw first hand the kind of trouble you can get in with injuries at QB. Unless Casey is a total flop today, he's going to make the team. As for all the other nonsense about signing bonuses etc, get real. BC holds exclusive rights under the terms of Printers previous contract.

I have one question -- perhaps others can help me determine the answer here:
Is a "hot rumour" in a thread like this actually just a figment of one's imagination or is it an actual reading from a rectal thermometer that has to be shared with everybody?
With Dickenson injury prone the Lions would need a good 3rd QB. Printers probably could slide into the role as their #3 behind Dickenson and Pierce, since you know Dickenson will be hurt some, obviously Pierce needs a good backup while he is starting.
