Kuddos to the Esks for putting on a show. Kuddos especially to Mike Reilly. Gosh I miss that guy. The Lions did not hand the game to the Esks. The Esks out played them and earned the win.
Not sure what was going on with Glenn. Was it 3 interceptions or 4? What the hey???
Glenn played a mediocre game tonight….like his heart wasn't into it. It was kind of reminiscent of the 100th Grey Cup game when he couldn't do much against the Argos.
Logan put on a clinic in the exhibition game against Calgary last week. Tonight the Esks all but shut him down. It was like watching Brown run. When Brown broke one he was gone but such treats were few and far between. Same with Logan tonight.
Someone please tell me why Glenn after marching down the field on some great running plays to try and tie the game with about 1:30 remaining decides to throw a bomb into the end zone where it was almost picked off. Why not continue with the run or do some screen passes or short 8 yard passes? They had plenty of time.
Is that all you talk about is Attendance Dupsdell? Did you ever think that for some people its the long weekend and most of the people are away somewhere. Did you think about that?
Well Beagle its just that one game. Glen most likely had a one off.
Noticed that too. putting the game in the afternoon directly up against the World Cup was not the brightest move. The pre-season game had a larger turnout.
Its times like these that I really miss Bob Ackles.
Skulskie does not know what he is doing , he is going to destroy any popularity this team has, until Bailey sells this team , the lions at home are a joke .
Ahhh…. the memories. Such a year! I was there when the Lions were 1-6. I was there when McCallum booted a 53 yard last play FG to beat Calgary. McCallum almost ****** his shorts. Most of us wanted to.
I was there when the Lions took 1st place. I was there when the Lions destroyed the Eskies in the Western Final.
And YES, I was there in B.C. Place on Grey Cup day to see the Lions defeat the Bombers!
Will that ever happen again? Maybe, but I doubt it. I hope the Lions make it to the Grey Cup this year, I just don't want to see them lose 5 straight at that start of the season.
Face it, the Lions cannot compete and do not grab the attention of the typical Vancouverite (especially the younger ones) when semi-long-weekend, beach, ocean, mountains, camping are far more popular. Summer weekends are death to Lions' attendance.
24,500 by CFL standards is not terrible. Calgary is getting almost the same attendance with a more successful team. But in a massive stadium like BC Place it looks bad (yikes, I remember being discouraged a few short years ago when we got 28,000 and change for Hamilton!). Looks like the Whitecaps gave up their regular Saturday game and played last Wednesday night (Skulsky was probably like, "score! We pulled one over on them! Oh wait, that's a long weekend going up against the World Cup" ).
Two things are becoming clearly over-rated at the new BC Place: 1) Afternoon games. The numbers from the Island and the Interior just do not make up for the fans they're losing locally. Play maybe one afternoon game a year, especially after Labour Day if they have to go up head-to-head against the Canucks. 2) With that miniscule opening they call a retractable roof that they seem to look for excuses not to open, people don't look at BC Place as an outdoor experience. Therefore they're hurting their gate by playing summer afternoons vs evenings.
And for God sakes find a tarp or something for the empty upper deck sections. Nothing screams 'small time' than section after section of empty seats. Must be awfully discouraging for the players (I sure wish we had a summer venue like Empire, then come indoors in October). Most discouraging is that all of this was clear last year, but Braley, Skulsky, and Chayka chose to ignore it all (summer afternoon, stadium configuration etc). I guess they were relying on a "Grey Cup hosting' lift. I really don't have a ton of faith in this administration.

I agree with everything you say we have the wrong people running this football team , I remember when empire was around ( old empire not empire filed) and I think there was only 1 or 2 games a year in the afternoon, these afternoon games have worn out there popularity , to much to do during the day know, ( especially in the summer ) Ackles would have never allowed this to happen , especially with the black out rule , HD tv is killing the league at the gate , when the lions were getting 45,000 a game back in the mid 80's there was no way to watch the game at home unless you went to it , I know we can not do anything about that know , So the lions are going to have to get very creative to keep the fan interest , and making bc place looking more like a real cool football stadium is a start, but they are not even doing that , PLEASE SELL THE TEAM BRAILY GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE AND GIVE IT TO A GROUP OF OWNERS THAT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.
Quit complaining about the attendance and do something about it Dupsdell. If you think you can do a better job then you should have apply for the marketing job with the Lions. One thing to keep in mind if we didn’t have David Braley we probably wouldn’t have the LIONS. Be grateful he cared enough to buy the team when is was in shambles. And you think Attendance is poor now? Think back before he bought the team. At least he’s willing to spend money and bringing in the right people of turning this team into contenders over the years.
Careful what you ask for Dupsdell. You tend to forget we Lions fans have been spoiled with good management and Onwership over the years.Maybe you like to go back and have a local owner like Nelson Skalbania or Murray Pezim running the show again before you realize how good you had it.
As for afternoon games Dupsdell. How do you know it has anything to do with management? Do you know if the Cfl and Tsn has a say in how the schedule works. Its seems to me all the CFL teams have the same amount of afternoon games.
Brailey has done nothing to promote this team , get people excited going to the stadium etc in the past 2 years , that right there says he is done as a owner, by the way I was not saying he was a bad owner, but his time has come know were he needs to move on and get some fresh creative ideas going or the lions are going to in the same situation as the Argos are in very quickly.
Isn't that a contradiction there Dupsdell? You say he isn't a bad owner ,but you say he's done. Look around the league. Besides Saskatchewen. Do you see a full house anywhere else. I didn't see it in Edmonton or Calgary. Are they bad owners.
Were you in Brailey's office with his other marketing directors and listening to their ideas? You could have fresh and great ideas and still can't get the crowd in and still not have a full house.
Hey Dupsdell have you ever work in the hospital, Police department, or Hotel and restaurant industry? You don't always get Friday's and weekends off . It doesn't matter what time the game start if you have to work then so be it. Do you know how many people want to go to games but because of their work schedule they can't. I live in the fraser valley and my wife and I can't get to games because we work. I know alot of friends can't go because of it. Do you know what its like for people to live on the island that used to go to games but with the constant ferry and gas prices keep going up they can't afford to go anymore. And some of my friends had to leave B.C because they either had their hours cut or lost their jobs. Are you going to blame Brailey for the poor economy Dupsdell . You don't know for a fact as to why people can't always come to games Dupsdell. Quit making assumptions it poor marketing . People have lives to support too. They're not going to stop work just to go to a football game. Mind you if I could do that I would .Like I said if you think you can do a better job go apply with the Lions in their marketing area,Or you can help some of us get better jobs where we all work Mon-fri afternoon with fat raises.
