Have you guys heard about Peladeau’s financial problems? His TVA Group just laid off over 500 people, and has serious financial problems.
How long before PKP cuts his losses with the Alouettes, to put his money into his core business? 
The Als are a DROP IN THE BUCKET compared to TVA’s problems … I would bet on him dumping TVA Sports before the Als.

I am not worrying one second concerning the Ownership of the Alouettes. TVA and the Alouettes are 2 different entities. The TVA financial situation are not Peladeau’s financial problems; yes, all the shareholders want to make money and they took tough decisions, which unfortunately, will affect the lively hood of many employees ,i.e. former employees.
The purchase of the Alouettes by Mr. Peladeau is a personal purchase; yes, he does not want to lose many millions, but he’s aware that the profits, if ever, will be modest.

take your calculator if you ain’t good at mental calculation, but 550 employees, at roughly 60,000 a year … yes I know they don’t all make 60K a year but they are specialised technicians and professional cameraman, and we need to calculate CSST, taxes and benefits …
ALL TOGETHER… about 30M a year!
So, maybe the Als will be loosing a few M$ a years for a few more years but the value ain’t close friends!
Videotron is still a healthy and prosperous company with it’s mobile and internet division, a move made by PKP.
AND! if you listen carefully to PKP speach yesterday, he talked about the value of professional sports on web platforms, so owning a sport team will be a nice investment in the long run even if contracts won’t go to TVA sport.

Quebecor’s (and therefore PKP’s) cash cow is it’s telecommunications business - Videotron and now Freedom Mobile. I don’t think he or we have to worry.

Nothing new for the TV media, it’s happening everywhere. People are not watching TV, they are cutting the cord and on the internet and streaming. CTV/TSN had major layoffs last year.
The CBC is hanging in there with their taxpayers funding and wasting hundreds of millions and no lay offs and have some prime real estate in the major cities.
TVA is cutting employees and some services and likely will save a lot of money.
This NHL deal they got into with Rogers did not pan out well for Peladeau as most predicted. He gambled that he would get an NHL franchise in QC. That was the revenue generator part of the plan and it did not happen and will not happen, again as many had predicted. but I think the business will do ok once it is restructured. Expect restructuring at Rogers and TSN as well in the coming months.

Quand j’étais plus jeune, on achetais une télé et ça venait avec une antenne. Tu sortais la TV de la boîte, branchait au mur, et plaçait l’antenne. VOILÀ!! La TV était gratuite! C’est comme ça que la télé c’est taillé une place dans les maisons Québécoises!
Si le CRTC revenait avec un signal gratuit pour les chaînes génériques, on retrouverait l’auditoire perdu au moins en parti. Les familles d’aujourd’hui doivent déjà payer pour cellulaires et internet, pas surprenant que les dépenses en « communication -divertissement » atteingnent une limite. Les gens choisissent de s’abonner à un service en ligne plutôt que de donner un autre 75$ par mois à Bell ou Videotron.
Donnez le signal gratuit comme avant. Les familles reviendront. L’auditoire augmentera et les revenus publicitaires aussi.

C’est bien vrai, mais il faut ramenner les gens à la télé, pas juste consommer pour un court moment du contenu sur une tablette. 2-3 petites pub de 15 secondes ne seront pas suffisantes pour ramenner des revenus.
Avant l’arivée du contenu en numérique (ce qui à modifier la façon dont le signal est transmis donc devenu impossible à capter gratuitement) les gens écoutaient la télé, puis il y avait des gens qui décidaient de s’abonner à un service par cable pour avoir plus de chaînes, généraient plus de revenus… c’était un échosystème.
Tu as juste a installer une antenne digitale. les memes poste de ton enfance sont toujours gratuit mais en HD
C’est comme demander aux gens dans les années '60 de ne pas délaisser la radio au profit de la télévision. Les temps changent. Les gens se tournent vers Internet pour s’abreuver d’âneries ou de choses sérieuses. Quand je regarde l’évolution de la réflexion en général, j’ai plus l’impression que les âneries ont la part du lion mais l’espoir demeure. Le balancier finit toujours par revenir.
Il existe même une bébelle qui te permet d’avoir quelque chose comme 50 000 chaînes de télé d’un peu partout sur la planète. Le bidule coûte 200$ et 25$ par mois après ça.
