I can't believe that no one has touched on this already, or were their threads deleted?
I was totally looking forward to the helmet giveaway tonight, but please tell me how we all (the ticket purchasing public) have a fair shot when the winning shirts are delivered by people throwing shirts into the crowd, or via cannons.
We sat in a box seat, yet the young girl on the sidelines had no chance of throwing near our proximity, and we were low enough that the cannons could not shoot near us without fear of injury.
Why not give the helmets away with a random ticket draw, or pick from season ticket holders?
it was stupid. people were getting the shirts handed to them if they went to the railing and saked for them, and they were all getting throwen into a few sectiona.
since bob took over the team the one plus has been promotion. whoever thought of this should be fired. on fan day the winners shoulda been drawn from the season ticket base.
I was really disappointed in this too. You pretty much had to be in the first 5 rows to get a shirt. I saw a couple people in the front row of my section with 2. That's just brutal. Picking from a season's ticket holder list, or picking random tickets would have been a better idea.
Those who have been loyal to the team and showed commitment by purchasing season tickets were, IMO, stiffed and should have been given the shot at the helmets.
Someone going to their first game of the season, or first game ever, could have "won" a helmet as it had more to do with whether a shirt was thrown your way and you are the rude and aggressive type that dives and fights for such give-aways. I didn't know the people sitting next to me (seats are up for grabs each game) yet the one fellow was able to "snag" a shirt (a black one and not one of the white winners).
IMO, draw should have been for season ticket holders, whether you were at the game or not with perhaps 1 to 2 weeks to claim your helmet. Unclaimed could have gone to Big Brothers or some such group.
Besides committing (thru season tickets) to a frustrating season on the field, this give away process seems like adding salt to the wounds for loyal fans.
I was surprised to see that the throwing of shirts into the stands was used for this helmet give away.
Have been at the ACC when the Leafs play the last Home Game of the season. They give away the sweaters that the players wore in the game.
They did so by seat numbers and one of the ushers would see that the winner got to the ice surface at games end. There must have been more to it, because all of the winners were “kids”. Must have put there ticket stubs aside as they entered the arena.
I SIT IN SECTION 7 AND AT THE TIME THE T SHIRTS WERE THROWN OUT THIS SECTION WE GOT 1 BLACK SHIRT AND MAYBE ONE WHITE WHILE I NOTICED BOX J GOT AT LEAST 6 WHITE SHIRTS MAYBE MORE IT SEEMS IT DOES'NT PAY TO BUY SEASON TICKETS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STADIUM BECAUSE WE RARELY SEE ANY FREEBIES THERE
Giving the helmets away to season ticket holders via a draw, ensures that everyone has a fair chance.
The odds of actually winning? I could care less.
Prizes should not be given away in a manner where the winning “tokens”, in this case, t-shirts, are easily identifiable. It only opens the door for problems.
Fan Appreciation Night? My husband and I are season ticket holders in box J, so we spent over $1000 on our tickets (combined). Are paying $20 to park, then for food and drinks etc. it can be an expensive night...but we love it and wouldn't miss it and we are huge ti-cat fans! AND will be back next year! BUT fan appreciation night is to thank the fans and most of your LOYAL fan base are your season ticket holders. Having said that, I thought the helmut give away was a very generous idea but yes it should have been handled better. One of the shirt winners in our section was a kid who was not a regular attendee and my guess would be that many of the helmut winners are just that. The best solution would have been to take 30 or so of the helmuts and drawn season ticket holder seats and the rest could have been shirts shot into the crowd. That way you know you are rewarding a significant portion of your loyal fans. Therefore I didn't feel particularily appreciated last night! Something was missing...
Also I wanted to strangle Jason Farr for how many times he told us to 'stick around to hear an important message from the players'. He was brutal and most annoying! He needs to go!!
